We had breakfast this morning at a place called Coffee Cube, at Carousel Shopping Centre. It’s one of those little cafes in the shopping centre that’s not in an actual shop building (I’m sure there’s a proper, more elegant way to describe this sort of “open” cafe, but right now I’m too tired to think of it). There was a skylight just above where we were sitting, which helped with the photos – I didn’t need to use the flash for a change.
Our drinks arrived first. Jac had a chocolate milkshake:

I had a cup of English Breakfast Tea with soy milk. The tea was very strong, which is, by coincidence, just how I like it.

I had a cooked breakfast with bacon, scrambled eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes and buttered toast. Yep, I consumed everything you see here.

My breakfast really hit the spot. I was surprised and pleased at the generous amount of bacon and eggs. I loved that there was streaky bacon as well as the more meaty bacon. The eggs were creamy and not overdone, really tasty.

Jac had a craving for a beef burger with salad and fried onions, and so that’s exactly what she had:

Here’s the burger innards shot for you innards fans. The burger had bacon and barbecue sauce (it was saucy but not overly saucy) as well as the salad and fried onions. The burger pattie was thick and juicy. Jac said the burger was very filling as well as delicious.

We really enjoyed our food. The service was excellent. The food was simple but delicious and good value. They sell cake in huge slices, as well as really yummy-looking bee stings and vanilla slices (we were stuffed and didn’t have room for any sweeties). We watched the waiters working as we ate and were very impressed with their manner, efficiency and peripheral vision. Customers got served really quickly and the food and hot drinks were just flying out. The staff noticed I was taking photos but didn’t seem to mind, which is good. We’ll definitely eat there again.

Mouth-wateringly awesome. And I always thought the same thing about flash – not having to use it is better. You get to see the natural colours better. :)
Yeah, I’d much prefer to never have to use the flash, but most of the places I tend to eat (home and out-of-home) aren’t very well lit from a photographic point of view. It’s also nicer taking food photos without a flash as people don’t notice as often, and so I don’t have to explain why I’m doing it or put up with people openly laughing at me (which they do).
Hi there! I am just wondering if you can let me know the location of the cafe, please? Close to K-mart or Target?
Love to try. =) and thanks for letting me know.
Hi cynthia,
Here’s the Westfield Carousel website’s info on Coffee Cube: http://westfield.com/carousel/ourstores/details/1081/
It’s near a newsagency/lotto kiosk, Colorado and the Foxtel display/booth. Hope that helps!
Bacon and scrambled eggs and tomatos – my facourite kind of brekkie! All you need is hash browns to complete the picture.
C, oh yeah. Hash browns would’ve been GREAT! But I won’t hold it against Coffee Cube ;-)
That looks awesome!
Hey what can I say–you had a camera! So it would have been only the best food and the best service for you.
Time for the silly question portion–what’s a bee sting? And I’m guessing that a vanilla slice is a slice of cake?
Pamela,
We did enjoy our breaky very much, and I was pleased with how the photos turned out.
Laynie,
Well, yes, a couple of staff members did notice I had a camera – but the point is we observed all the staff giving everyone excellent service and food. I do think most places that notice that I have a camera just think I’m a weirdo, rather than someone who needs to be specially impressed. If they’re usually good, they’ll be good. If they’re usually bad, they’ll still be bad.
Layla, apparently a beesting is the Aussie version of the German cake called “bienenstich”.

Vanilla slice is pastry with custard in the middle and sweet icing on top. I took a photo of one ages ago, the photo is here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ricepot/22257493/
If you want to see a ‘generous’ beef burger, I highly recommend you go to the Flying Scotsman in Mt Lawley.
Biggest beef burger I’ve ever seen. My boyfriend ate half of it and was full! Very tasty though :)
Cool, Megan! Next time we find ourselves in Mt Lawley, I’ll definitely have to check out that big beef burger! A bit of little known trivia: I used to work at that very building the Flying Scotsman is in, when the place was known as Lawley’s. Do you ever eat at Monte Fiore across the street? I used to work there too! :)
Thanks! Oh, by the way, another thanks go to Megan..I love to try the burger out at Flying Scotsman in Mt Lawley =)
Hi!
Looks as a great breakfast! :)
I love eating breakfast outside, everything is a little quieter and you start your day so nicely!
Just discovered your blog and really like it! Will definitely check back soon for new posts…:)
You should check my new foodblog TastingLife sometimes! Tnx!
Hi julia!
It was really lovely. Admittedly, we were smack bang in the middle of a shopping centre on a Saturday morning, so it wasn’t all that quiet! :) I’ll check out your blog too, cheers!
