Saturday morning pies

in Takeaway

This morning, we had bakery pies for breaky. You may recall my recent chicken pie from the same place.

Jac’s steak and kidney pie.

This time I managed to get her to let me squeeze in an innards shot after she’d taken a few bites.

Jac got a ham and cheese quiche because I had a craving for it. I thought they’d have those tiny mini quiches for 50 cents, but all they had were full-size ones. (I wasn’t too upset about that! :-P) But where’s the ham, you may ask (I did!)?

It was there, inside, at the bottom. I guess they must add the ham to the pastry shell, then pour in the quiche mixture. The middle was soft and creamy, with lots of onion. Delicious. I ate only half the quiche because what I REALLY felt like was…

…a steak and mushroom pie.

This is my favourite shot of the lot. Just look at that filling! Oh yeah.

Now *that* is pornographic. You should see the piddling things they try to pass for meat pies in the states.

Chubbypanda,

We do have wishy-washy meat pies too (though, once we’ve worked out which places sell them, we don’t return). But yeah, I think that steak and mushroom pie innards shot is my favourite of all pies I’ve featured here.

Wow, that mushroom pie looks delicious!! I love them and I love them when there’s really big chunks of mushroom in it and it’s REAL! I wish I lived near a bakery like that. All the ones near me seem to think offal is the best ingredient for pies.

Katie,
It was a very good pie. I’ve had them before but had forgotten just how good and chunky the filling was. I’m not fussed if there are snouts and feet and bums in the pies, as long as 1) it tastes good to me and 2)I don’t get sick from eating it. :-P Of course, Jac actually likes offal to taste like offal. She likes stuff like panfried liver and onions, devilled kidneys and crumbed lambs brains in white sauce. “Don’t kiss me, Organ Breath!” I say!

Hahaha “organ breath!” I laughed out loud at that and got some funny looks from my housemates. That’s just GROSS. :D

Those pies look amazing. And I love the look of that quiche…it looks nice and eggy/creamy.

Katie,
Due to her love for offal, Jac is called Organ Breath on a regular basis. Though technically I do love chicken skin and that too is an organ, so I should also be Organ Breath. :)

Sarah,
They were very good. The quiche was very creamy indeed. The onion really made it tasty. The ham was very finely chopped and didn’t add much, and I reckon the quiche would’ve been wonderful even without it.
