The sting in the tail

Hello all.

I would like to draw your attention to this charming comment left in response to one of my recent posts about Jac having been ill. The person who wrote this little heartfelt gem calls himself DocChuck.

Just want to let you know that I am saying “Bye-Bye” to your Blog.

My wife and I (American) have been reading it and enjoying some of the pictures for a while, now.

But today, we read Bleeeeeargh . . . and that was EXACTLY our reaction . . . Bleeeeeargh!

We realize now that you are advertising and PROMOTING a disgusting, perverted lifestyle . . . and THAT is what PORNOGRAPHIC about your site.

May you burn in hell.

DocChuck, did spewing forth that little diatribe make you feel better? Perhaps part of its venom was spurred on by your feeling like a fool, seduced all this time by photographs of food that you genuinely enjoyed, before you made the shocking discovery that the photographer is a lesbian – and recoiled in horror. *snort*

Yes, yes. I’ll declare it now in case any one else wasn’t aware of the fact and would like to make a graceful exit from readership of this blog (or do as DocChuck has done, and insult me under the protection of cyberspace and a pseudonym – that’s very big of you, DocChuck).

Yes, I am a woman. And yes, my partner of almost ten years is also a woman. (I guess DocChuck was tipped off and made his disturbing discovery with the help of certain pronouns and the mention of “ex-girlfriends” in the last post.) I’ve never made a big deal of it. My sexuality is part of who I am, and I’m not ashamed of that. Over time, in reading and responding to my readers’ comments, reading their own blogs and exchanging the odd email, I know a number of my readers are very different to me and have very different beliefs – a number of my readers are very spiritual and/or religious people, for example, but I don’t force my personal beliefs down their throats nor judge and insult them nor wish bad things on them. What to me is the best part about having this site, what I think is so wonderful and precious and important is the communication and sharing between people from all over the world, from different backgrounds and circumstances – we enjoy sharing our common love of food and the sensory pleasures of looking at, smelling and tasting food. We help each other discover new foods and new ways of preparing and enjoying the foods we thought we knew. We discuss our love for our partners, and our pets. We communicate our ideas and experiences. We enjoy life together. Two women who happen to be lesbians and partners, eating freshly baked meat pies in country towns while on holiday – yeeeeeeeeah, that’s pretty damn perverted. Heh.

DocChuck, your parting words don’t hurt me in the least – I’m not worried about burning in hell because I don’t believe there is such a place.

Bye-Bye.

Creeps like him do not deserve to enjoy your blog. Keep doing what your doing because your blog is one of my favorities and most interesting to read.

Thanks, Corrine.
I appreciate your support and am pleased to be among your favourites.

Here I was, thinking I was free of controversial posts/comments and here we are, back again. Makes things interesting, anyway.

Unfortunately that is the reaction of many people when it comes to things they don’t understand or can’t understand. I figured it out a looong time ago via your hilarious FAQ (that have since changed, I believe) and it doesn’t bother me.

I visit your site because you eat awesome food, take droolingly wonderful photographs, and you sound intelligent and witty. You are friendly and Jac sounds awesome too. The fact that you are a *gasp* lesbian doesn’t bother me in the slightest.

So I guess I am sorry for idiots like that guy and his wife. How about getting Jac to make a really nice chocolate fudge mud cake to … console… you and maybe you could take photos of it for your site? Close-ups? You know, just so you feel better….nothing to do with me craving chocolate fudge mud cake…. mmmmm…. *drools*

Rant and rave all you like. You are a sick individual and you need serious counseling.

Your attempts to cast aspersion against me (us) invite one LAST response: I am a (University of Texas) Ph.D., and my wife is a (Johns Hopkins) M.D.

Now, those facts will most likely upset you, your lesbian friend, Jac, and many of your BLOG followers.

So be it.

But DO NOT get it into your head that you can use a website to spread your message across the globe without rebuttal.

DO NOT get it into your head that you somehow have the “power” to force approval of your perverted lesbian lifestyle onto the rest of us.

DO NOT get it into your head that you believe that YOU can intimidate ANYONE!

Have a great Holiday season, Food Pornographer!

I’ll just say that I thought your reponse, tfp, was very eloquent. I quite enjoy your site. Thanks for sharing part of your life with us.

What the…?

Good god mate. What, i ask, does being a lesbian have to do with writing about/photographing food, and associated enjoyment? I mean, Christ (whoops!), we all eat, gay, straight, neuter or undecided!

(And, do i detect a hint of scared self-denial in the anti-gay tirade? *grin*)

lol I don’t think DocChuck is having a very good day. I am a Christian so I am taking this from a Christian view-point. Perhaps instead of concentrating on throwing stones at other people, you should look at your own life first?

“…He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.” John 8:7

…or are you saying you are perfect?

Seriously, DocChuck, you made your point. The longer you are here, the more you are irritating us. Get a spine.

Bye bye.

Being a lesbian has absolutely NOTHING to do with the point of this blog, which is to highlight fabulous photos of food so that people like myself can drool over the photos.

I have read this blog from beginning to end and can probably count on one hand the number of times tfp has really spelled out her relationship with Jac. So for DocChuck to think for even a second that she’s trying to “spread (her) message across the globe” or that she’s trying to “force approval of (her) perverted lesbian lifestyle onto the rest of us” is a joke.

DocChuck – YOU are the one who needs counseling. I’m sure you consider yourself a good Christian, but Jesus’s message was to love thy neighbor, not throw stones at them. But I guess in your mind that only applies to certain people, huh?

I like how he threw his credentials around like it somehow justifies his homophobia. Evangelical Christians – oh how you humour me.

I don’t know where he got the lifestyle promotion thing from. All we have here are food porn. He obviously does not know what lesbian porn looks like. I can give him some links. :D

And the word-verification check is:

Coincidence????? Woohoo!

And btw, why do you get all the good flamers?! I want me some!

Oh. My. God.
He needs his own blog to spread his little evangelical gospel of hate. I am intolerant of intolerance, but all the letters in the world after one’s [and one's wife's] name can’t save someone like that from coming of as an complete fool. And an angry one at that.

Oh TFP… I’m sorry you had to go through that. Please don’t think that all Americans, highly educated people or Christians feel the need to damn/judge/attack others with hatred… we don’t. Please continue to post, I’ve enjoyed reading your blog and seeing the photos :)

Wow, you can be American, Christian, have letters after your name, and still be an arse? Who’d've thunk it? :p My father was a priest, I believe in God, my partner is still out with the jury, and that’s OK with me. Oh, and I might bring up the fact that I have a BCM(Hons) too, cause that’s totally relevant :)

I can’t believe how some people can call themselves Christians and be so hateful, judgemental and intolerant. So much for leading and guiding by example.

Love to you and Jac, I’m glad you have such thick skins :)

P.S. And I wish his last word would really be his last word!

Add me to the list that this is absolutely by far my favorite blog, food or otherwise. I share the link every chance I get, and everyone always drools over the pictures. Your style of writing is very pleasing, and your descriptions of your life are enchanting. You and Jac sound to have a relationship that everyone should envy, and emulate, no matter their sexual orientation.

and Dr Chuck sounds like a repressed jerk.

WHAT???? You’re gay.

Someone stop the planet DocChuck needs to get off.

While I’m at it. Why is is socially acceptable for a man to be extremely masculine and a woman to be extremely feminine, yet it’s not ok to have a feminate male or a masculine female?
Maybe the good doc or his wifey-poo could explain that as they are soooo educated. Even someone like me, with a high school diploma can accept that part of genetics….
duh.

Love your food blog!!! You make me want to be your lesbian gf…too bad I live in the States and have a husband!

He can take his Phd and shove it (with the glass frame it’s enclosed in) right up his ass. Wait. As i’m writing that, I’m wondering if his wife and he only have missionary sex. Anything else might be deemed *wrong*.

May his next boss be a lesbian beotch from hell.

Whilst I cannot agree with your meat-eating habits (sorry, am a nasty vegetarian), your site is food porn at its best (and clearly popular because of this).

Your sexuality is nobody’s business. Don’t let a moron tell you otherwise. esp. an American conservative at that!

PS: Of course there is no hell. Organised religion is for people who can’t think for themselves and nobody with half a brain should take advice from any of the followers of the three most-blood-thirsty Abrahamic religions.

Hey ppl!

For what it’s worth, my partner and i took about two weeks to realise you were even female, let alone a lesbian! :P And we couldn’t care less.

Sorry, but i’m just a regular (read: potentially under-educated?) guy who loves his food.

I don’t have any fancy letters after my name (i don’t even have a middle name).

I’ve never been religious (i have an issue with following something that i believe has caused 99% of the worlds problems from day one).

Yet even i have learnt to treat people simply by how they treat others.

As long as there are photos of amazing meals combined with interesting text, i’ll be reading. And hey, when tfp decides to stop taking photos and writing about food, i’ll still tune in to see what new dramas have unfolded! :) lol

I’m done now. Back to the food! :)

It’s part of our job as humans to accept everyone’s diversity and uniqueness, and to accept everyone’s view of the world, as challenging and different as it may be compared to our own views.

I am personally offended for you, foodpornographer, that this imbecile thinks he has the right to tell you what you should or shouldn’t post on your blog. Yes, your blog is first and foremost a food blog, but even if you wanted to post about your experiences as a lesbian everyday, he has no right to tell you otherwise. If people don’t like your site or the content of your site, they should leave. He should keep his homophobic, xenophobic, nonsensical ranting on his own blog.

You have the right to post whatever you want, and I truly hope that his hateful, inane ranting doesn’t in any way curtail your future postings. I know that I find your forthcomingness and your openness about your life just as enjoyable as your awesome food pictures. You have many fans, don’t be discouraged by the cowardly words of one dolt.

the comment by DocChuck makes me so sad. i feel sorry for “christians” like him, as their hateful judgmental ways will probably condemn themselves to hell, if such a place does indeed exist.

the beauty of blogs and blogging is that it provides a medium to express yourself–DocChuck is delusional if he thinks anyone is seeking HIS approval.

it’s true that we should respect others’ opinions, but when someone is spewing hate and rage, it makes it very hard to accept what is clearly NOT a mere difference of opinion.

i would just like to end by directing people’s attention to the fact that the worst homophobes are also sometimes the most closeted–perhaps it’s a product of self-loathing. remember the reverend ted haggard?

Hello TFP

I am a recent fan and as an American, I am deeply, deeply ashamed and would like to apologize on the behalf of my ridiculous countrymen and their bible thumping ways. It’s remarks and people like him that reminds me why I moved to France. I am more than willing to respect anyone’s belief systems, which you seem to have done so eloquently in your response. It just makes me so sad that he had to come on YOUR blog and comment on YOUR lifestyle.

I especially love this comment from him “DO NOT get it into your head that you somehow have the “power” to force approval of your perverted lesbian lifestyle onto the rest of us.”. I don’t believe that your blog is forced upon anybody nor your lifestyle. I myself didn’t know you were a female or a lesbian until well into the middle of your blog! I think the only thing you have convinced me of is to eat more chinese takeout. (Which is always awesome)

Please do not take this comment to heart as there are thousands of us Americans out there that still love and read this blog despite your so called “hedonistic” lifestyle! ;-)

Bon courage!

PS: So he has a PH.D huh? I guess even intelligence doesn’t come prepackaged with tact. :-)

I guess I fail to see how you are promoting a any type of lifestyle. He said that he enjoyed your blog for a while now, and he just now figured out that you are a lesbian. You talk about your life and your love of food. I don’t recall you talking about politics or religion or your sexuality. Hardly seems like promotion to me. Promotion would be like naming your blog Gaymo. It leaves little mystery, and it keeps people like that from thinking they like you until they find out you’re gay.

Well, I don’t have the amazing (and probably made up) credientials of a medical doctor, like your fan there does – - but really, lez be friends! ;)

Why should it matter what your sexual orientation is? Why do people make it their calling to spew hate on another’s space. You’d think, with all their immense brain power, they would have the ability to just sail on by. Maybe they skipped the study of tolerance at both Johns Hopkins and U Texas. I feel for their patients. Isn’t it like, against the code of ethics, to discriminate against sexual orientation? Just sayin’.

It is very disappointing to see someone like docchuck mixing his own prejudice (against homosexuality) with what the ideal purpose of the blog is: wondeful food. Its even more disappointing to see that someone with such distinguised education still has such limited understanding of the world as in the 21st century. Who cares about your PhD or your wife’s MD? All we want to have on the internet is for all fellow users to show some courtesy and respect of one’s rights.
Isn’t there always a time when a group of people enjoy a great meal and there is always one bastard who always brings up an issue of great sensitivity and everyone on the table has a massive debate…ending up with something just short of a riot. When people are trying to have a good time, don’t spoil the camaraderie. DocChuck, with all honesty you’re one of these people.
If a comment is meant to harm someone’s feelings, keep it to yourself.

Another lurker, here.

I hate it how some christians (ofcourse not all) abuse their faith to justify their hatred of homosexuals.

I’m not a christian myself, but i’ve been to a catholic school and I’ve always been taught that the most important value of christianity is equality. And that God is a God of love, who doesn’t judge, certainly not on such superficial bases.

I think the weirdest thing about the internet and especially the comments pages on blogs is that there is just TOO MUCH GOD-DAMNED miscommunication, flaming, and cowardice going on. Miscommunication like between Rainforest and Leigh, flaming like what DocChuck did (and is in all likelihood still doing), and cowardice (as in when people do stupid things like DocChuck did while hiding behind internet anonymity).

DocChuck, you need to get a life.

Leigh, so do you. For the following reasons:

#1 – if you accidentally found this blog, you can just as easily hit “back” and get out of it. #2 – you chose to stay. #3 – you decided it was offensive. #4 – you STILL didn’t hit “back”. #5 – you went on to comment in a comments column whose culture you do not know, and misunderstood something. #6 – instead of apologising for the miscomm and leaving gracefully, you chose to leave flames.

I hereby announce to you, my dear girl, that you are the one being offensive. Hello, what “seething cauldron of lesbians”? Are you even aware that there are non-lesbians reading and commenting on this blog? What makes a gathering of lesbians a coven anyway? I don’t see what it has to do with witchcraft.

Good grief.

TFP, it’s weird that I only feel goaded to comment when there are stupid things going on. But hey, write on. :)

Furthermore, “weirdlittlepony”, I don’t have a clue who DocChuck is, nor do I wish to know who he/she/it is. BUT, I do have a clue who YOU ARE!

You, as demonstrated by your juvenile diatribe, are (1) obviously queer, (2) obviously uneducated, (3) obviously Australian, and (4) obviously a failure in life.

Now, I do not care for any of those types, “weirdlittlepony” so don’t spew your venom on someone who could most likely buy and sell you many times over.

You want to use this BLOG as a forum for lesbian tirades, so be it. But, when the BLOG is accessed, and then the content REJECTED by people who do NOT buy into the crap, you people just have to learn to go with the flow!

That’s the way the internet (developed by AMERICANS, by the way) operates.

I will not further address your juvenile name calling, BUT I will take this opportunity to tell you what I (LEIGH . . . not some COWARDLY bullshit name “weirdlittlepony”) that I do NOT particularly care for lesbians, for Australians, for Chinese take-out (or for Chinese in ANY form, for that matter), OR for you, “weirdlittlepony.”

And, finally, I DO NOT NEED your permission to “write on.” I will write whatever I damned well please.

Wow Leigh – it sounds like you’ve got a lot of built up anger/frustration there. Perhaps you need to take a deep breath and relax. Last time I checked, no one is forcing you to read/participate in this blog. So if you have a problem/issue with anything here how about just tuning out and not returning. I’m sure we’d all be happy if you did.

‘The internet was developed by Americans’ gee Leigh i’m sorry to disappoint you but last time I checked the World Wide Web (upon which the internet runs) was developed around 1990 by Englishman Tim Berners-Lee working at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland.

You obviously didn’t do your homework. If you had you would have known the above, plus you would also have known about the fact that your unique internet address (IP) is logged everytime you make a post here.

So as per FP’s most recent post (http://www.thefoodpornographer.com/?p=565) it appears (despite your denials) that you and DocShock are one and the same (or at least using the same PC).

How about you start practicing what your God commands you do and “JUDGE NOT LEST THOU BE JUDGED”

Grow up :)

Just because I like getting the last word in, despite every argument we might throw out to demonstrate that DocChuck and Leigh are both really horrible people, the most damning condemnation comes from their own words. It’s clear to any rational person reading this that the two of them are homophobic racists.

So, recap:

* DocChuck – Hysterical homophobe and Christian fanatic.

* Leigh – (DocChuck’s wife or repressed alter ego?) Hysterical homophobe, racist against Australians, and racist against the Chinese.

I for one welcome any additional comments that they might post. They’ll just keep on proving the points above.

Herin endeth the lesson.

Hi guys, food pornographer, Jac, lovers of all orientations – wierd, wacky and wonderful, everyone who loves food and the special and wonderful talents of the food pornographer. May we celebrate together our free minds and hearts and souls and lives and loves (of food especially – snort indeed) without fear of judgement and foul attack. Good on you for sharing all your loves in such a pleasant and warm and loving way. If only all human beings could give as much. Love is to be celebrated whether it be of man, woman or food stuff!! Get into it I say.

Hey TFP,

Look who just popped up on my radar again.

http://chubbyhubby.net/blog/?p=493#comment-4743

It’s our ol’ buddy DocChuck (first commenter), taking pride in having been “…kicked off (and banned) from nearly EVERY ‘respectable’ food website on the net (including ‘Serious Eats’, ‘RoadFood.com’ and other ‘politically-correct’ groups of self-aggrandizing food-critic-wannabes).”

Looks like he’s about as popular everywhere else as he was here. Rock rock on.

Excuse this post being 5 years after the fact. I am an ex-para (and flaming hetero) who read the Doc Chuck entry on the fakers Hall of Shame. It is a site that exposes liars claiming combat or elite unit experience which, in a very roundabout way, led me here. I have to agree with the poster begging not to judge us Yanks by the fraudster troll. I am 1st generation, anyhow :-) I had a serious drug problem that cost me EVERYTHING. When I finally had enough, guess who was about the only real friend I had left? A decent and great guy who happened to be gay. I stayed at his place while I went through withdrawal and continued to stay there until I could get a place in veterans’ housing. 8 years later I am still grateful to him. Strangely enough he is now great friends with my girlfriend. Anyone who hates folks because of orientation deserves not to have the friends they are happily denying themselves. I hope the last sentence makes sense :-) Rock on!
