As I stood in line waiting to order at McDonald’s on Tuesday night, I realised that it’s been many years since I ate a McDonald’s Apple Pie – and so I ordered one. I like the current packaging, very Aussie green and gold.
I know people who absolutely hate these apple pies because they are deep fried. That’s precisely why I like them. I do like traditional baked apple pie, of course, but there’s room in my life for both. I just love that crispy bubbled pastry, even though it leaves my lips greasy with every bite. I can eat these hot or cold. Actually, I’ve recently discovered that I can eat McNuggets and Filet O Fish burgers cold too, and still enjoy them.

Good morning tfp
I have become an adoring, dedicated and drooling fan of your blog :-P Hope you and your other half are doing well, thanks again for sharing!
Tink :-)
Tink,
My pleasure, and thank you for your kind comment!
Nice updates! I love Maccas Apple Pies and I don’t have them very regularly at all, so I think it makes it really extra nice if it’s an oddity that you have it. And yes, it’s deep fried but if you’re going to have Maccas you might as well go all out! hehe :)
Oooh I also love their apple pie! Hot or cold! MmMmm They have a really nice pineapple pie that I tried in the Singapore Maccas once. I wish they’d sell them in Australia.
Katie,
I’ve always liked them, but for some reason I never think of getting one along with whatever Value Meal I get. But then as a result when I do have one, I REALLY enjoy them.
SoRMuiJAi,
Oooh, I wish we’d have a pineapple pie here too. I’d go for that, most definitely.
hi, new to your blog! mmm!! the McD apple pies are still fried in Taipei too, although I think I see more apple inside yours than they have here. They also cheapened out and don’t serve the perfectly sized box here anymore- just a paper wrapper.
joanh,
Welcome! I’d be sad (a nostalgic sort of sad) if they stopped serving the apple pies in that box. It’s all part of the experience of the Macca’s Apple Pie.
I’m so jealous. Here in Canada the pies are now baked. They are not nearly as good as they used to be when deep fried.
I too love the pies and am a BIG fan of your Flickr photos(see my faves). In Hawaii McDonalds serves Coconut and Taro pies as well, does Australia have local flavors at their McDonalds? We also have Spam in our breakfasts and Ramen on the menu as well.
Andie,
Who knows, they might switch to baked here sometime. After all, they have been going crazy with the “healthy choices” items.
Dean,
No local flavours whatsoever here. I don’t think they even sell many apple pies. I wish we had SPAM McMuffins and SPAM Big Breakfasts! No one here seems to admit even eating SPAM. Except me. :-P
Ooh I love those McDonalds Apple pies! They’re one of the things I almost always have to get when we’re there (which isn’t very often).
Did you ever get the special edition pies in Oz? One that we loved but it didn’t last long is the blueberry pie, that was nice too.
Why is it that all the best things get discontinued so soon? Like Cherry Coke. I used to love that. Now I have to resort to putting Maraschino cherries in my coke! :-) I guess I must have tastes that not many others do!
* Sorry, I don’t normally like to bump old threads but this was a special one!
Craig,
I have a new post coming up featuring McDonald’s apple pie! :D No, we’ve pretty much only ever had the apple pies here. Blueberries are terribly expensive here, so I doubt they’d be putting them in a Macca’s pie. I know what you mean, all these limited edition things we fall in love with only to find the limited time has ended. I miss the Hungry Jack’s Swiss burger, which had swiss cheese and mushrooms in it.
*No worries. If I really didn’t want people to comment on old posts I’d have disabled commenting after a certain time. :)
Well, the blueberries were probably not real anyway! Some kind of hybrid, tastes like a blueberry but isn’t really, chemical substitution thing. :-) Who cares it was nice regardless!
The HJ Swiss burger sounds nice too! It just needs bacon to be perfect!
Haha, yep, I’m one of those terrible people who judges by taste rather than um, authenticity. :P
Well, at HJs you can order your burger however you want it, so it would be easy to order the Swiss burger with bacon in it. :)
