I had a course to attend in Perth on Wednesday morning and decided to go into the city earlier and grab some breakfast. And so, just after 7:00am I wandered around town looking for somewhere I could sit for an hour or so, have a full cooked breakfast and read my book. I like a leisurely big breakfast. I ended up at Etro on King Street, where I ordered the Etro Full Cooked Breakfast (AU$17.20): two eggs (I chose fried), bacon, beef chipolatas, fried onions, mushrooms, roasted tomato, two large pieces of toasted sourdough bread and a salad garnish. I immediately plunged my fork eagerly into one of the bouncy chipolatas (YUM! I reckon they’d squeak in the pan when frying! I love squeaky sausages!) and munched on a piece of crispy bacon. The toast was perfect for mopping up the oozy egg yolk. The tomato was so soft and sweet and sprinkled with herbs, and I wished for more. I cut my bacon, egg and toast into bite-sized pieces so I could spear everything with my fork, leaving my knife hand free to hold my book. As I read and ate I wished I had the time to go out for breakfast more often. These days I find myself constantly thinking about how as a student I had so much more time to do stuff but so little money, and now I have more money but so little time to do all the things I should’ve done when I had the time as a student. It sucks, really!
Sharp-eyed readers will probably notice the pool of oil sitting on this egg. It was a big, greasy, leisurely breakfast.

I always await in anticipation for Sunday, becos I know it’s the day you usually post all the wonderful stories and mouth watering pictures. And Yes! You finally did! Always a pleasure to read your yummilicious description. sorry about your skinned knee. Had a somewhat similar experience this year and ended up with a ripped-off big toe nail.
blur ting,
I’m glad I was able to provide what you were waiting for. My knee is ok – the graze hasn’t left much of a scab. (yeah yeah some people will probably be grossed out just because of that word – scab!)
I had an Eggs Benedict business brekky at the Subiaco Hotel last Friday morning – it was delicious, so next time you’re thinking of a nice place for breakfast, try them. They do a good feed!
I’ve written my review of that breakfast just this morning for EatingWA (http://www.eatingwa.com.au) but it probably won’t appear for a day or so as reviews have to be approved by the admin people first.
Rhonda,
I’ll let Jac know about the Eggs Benedict at the Subi Hotel. She loves EB. I haven’t been to the Subi Hotel for years – all I remember about it is that it was really noisy there.
I love the idea of having such a nice leisurely breakfast in the morning. Sadly that never happens unless it’s the weekend or I’m not going to work. I wouldn’t even know where to go for breakfast as the area around my office has zero restaurant options.
Looks like a wonderful breakfast!
The Home Cook,
Yeah, I wish I could have leisurely breakfasts all the time. What a shame you don’t have restaurants to eat at near your work. One of my criteria for deciding where I would apply for jobs was proximity to food places!
I have said it before, but will say it again – you have much better food where you live than in the UK.
I intent to re-create this piece of art at the weekend.
