I guess that's why they call it Lean Cuisine

Last night, while Jac was at hockey, I dug around in the freezer and found this Lean Cuisine – Thai Green Chicken Curry with rice. Jac knows how terribly lazy I am when it comes to cooking for myself on week nights, so she likes to buy a few ready meals to stash in the freezer so I’ll have a few options at hand when I get home from work.

It was really tasty, but just not enough to satisfy my voracious appetite – I could’ve easily eaten two of these in one sitting. I found myself eating really slowly to make it last, because I could see how small a serving it was. The green curry sauce could’ve been a lot spicier, but it had a lovely flavour. The chicken breast slices were delicious, but there were only five of them. Five! I ate them in slow motion. I guess portion control won’t please the ravenous carnivores amongst us.

how funny – the boxes in the US are totally diffrent. I eat lean cuisine often for lunch – the lemongrass chicken and rice is my favorite…

LOL! That’s the whole point of Lean Cuisine – that portion is technically what most people should be eating for dinner. It might seem small, but after eating it and sitting for a while, I always feel content, and not over-full like I often feel. :)

Yes they are small portions, I found one that I really liked which was by Weight Watchers though, it was Chicken Carbornora, I went through a phase where I would eat it almost every day …. . like you tfp I could probably eat 2 if they were in front of me !!!

Having a naughty night tonight as I can’t be bothered to cook (that’s what Friday nights are for aren’t they) . . . You also got me hooked on Domino’s pizzas from your pic so that is what we are having !!!

eww I hate those things they never look as good as they do in the pictures, wait…

lol why is she buying you lean cuisines is she trying to tell you to lose weight or something? not a very subtle hint, my husband gets sooo pissed when I buy him “healthy” frozen foods. I think its because their not marketed to men here so he becomes more offended that im feeding him “girly” food…

daphne,
I was in the supermarket on Thursday night and was amazed at the wide range of Lean Cuisine. It actually looked good! (as good as a meal in a box can look)

Bryan,
Wow, yeah, completely different packaging! I think our packaging looks more feminine, with the white space and pinkish border. The ads I see for Lean Cuisine are definitely aimed at women rather than guys or “everyone”.

Katie,
Yeah, I know… :( I am great at eating nutritious meals, but terrible at portion control. Tummy (or perhaps brain?) always demands more.

justonemorebite,
Yep, Friday nights should be enjoyed! I definitely didn’t have Lean Cuisine last night… the post will be coming later next week. Key word: cream.

jetgirl,
Nah, it’s not a hint. She keeps telling me she loves me the way I am (awwww!). She knows I’ve been trying to cut down a little where I can, so it was a way to kill two birds with one stone (the other bird being the convenience of having a meal in a box). Plus, she knows how much I love green curry chicken. Hahah, as per my comment reply to Bryan above, our packaging over here is definitely aimed at women rather than men.
But yeah, I won’t be going all Lean Cuisine – no way could I call myself The Food Pornographer if I did that!
