I’ve been looking forward to this! Some of the bento gear I purchased online arrived last week, including my very first bento box.
I thought it would be easiest for me to tell you guys all about it via video, so here it is, via YouTube.
I shot this video in one take not long after waking up on Sunday morning. The sharp-eyed amongst you may notice that in the video I missed out one item from the pile of goodies here. I’m not sure what happened there! :)
Wait till you see this week’s lunches.

I'm TFP, a food blogger from Perth, Western Australia.

oooh …. who was the merchant on Ebay ? I have a bento box, but would love to get one that has all the extra tools and doodads.
What fun! I’m no expert, but it looks like you’ve got everything you need, there. Except for the food, of course.
Welcome to the bento craze. It takes you over until your checking account is depleted. Here are some good websites:
http://lunchinabox.net/ – she makes them for herself and a toddler, although I have a hard time believing her toddler eats much of the stuff she makes for him

http://www.c4vct.com/kym/bento/index.htm – she doesn’t update this page anymore but she’s got GREAT pictures and ideas for “Americanized” bentos
SORRY! That last link should be this instead:

Hi Cecilia,
The user I purchased the bento box with included accessories was nippon-treasures, on eBay Australia. He/she was getting rid of some items before returning to Japan, I think. I’m afraid he/she doesn’t have any more items left for sale. :( The other accessories (food picks, sauce containers with lids) came from user yingka*bento. Very quick to ship from Hong Kong to Australia. I received my goods within a week.
Irene,
I have almost all I need. :-P Still having fun checking out what’s available and deciding what to order. I’m very much a shopaholic.
Nicole,
Oh yes, I have definitely gone bento crazy. Lunch in a Box was one of the first bento blogs I read- I must’ve spent hours going through all her pages. Thanks for the other links – I hadn’t seen them before. More happy reading for me!
thanks ! will do some hunting myself too *
haha, you sounded really excited, and got me all excited too about bento boxes and the oh-so-cute sauce tubes with animal heads. ebay singapore is kinda boring, unfortunately. thanks for the useful vid, certainly much easier to understand then just photos. :)
Cecilia,
There’s lots of Bento stuff for sale on eBay. I’ve been spending hours and hours browsing and making my mind up what to buy next! :)
tunadip,
When my items arrived I knew right away I’d shoot a video. It was funny – Jac was out when I filmed it. When she came home I told her what I’d done, and her response was: “What?! You talked about your bento stuff for SIX MINUTES?!!!” LOL!
A correction to Nicole’s reply -
I run the site, My Lunch Can Beat Up Your Lunch, and I am still regularly updating it!
Hi Kim,
I’ve been enjoying your site since Nicole told me about it. Have bookmarked it and will definitely be back. :)
Great video – I totally need a bento kit! That stuff is just too cute and your accent is awesome! I loved listening to your detailed explanation!
Bryan,
Glad you enjoyed my obsessive ravings! Makes me laugh that you like my accent. :)
I was wondering if you could share where did you purchase those cute bento boxes??!!! They are so lovely!!!!! my goodness!!!
Can you email me or something? I really really love to get a reply from you. Thank you so much!
shu alexis,
I bought my bento boxes from eBay. We don’t have shops here in Perth, Western Australia that sell bento gear (well, not that I have discovered yet). All the bento boxes I have featured on my site are still available via different sellers on eBay.
I live in Sydney so it’s easier to find bento gear here than in Perth.
Japanese stores can be good, but I’ve mostly bought my things from Chinese-owned “dollar” stores and, better still, Korean stationery stores like Morning Glory. They can be quite cheap if you don’t buy them online, too, but they’re very hard to find because such stores don’t always stock bento gear.
