Craig,
I think the main reason any Aussies (mostly foodies) would know "mange tout" is from watching international cooking shows on TV. Generally speaking most people here would call them snow peas. I like "snow pea" more too. Sounds cuter. :D

I always loved the term "snow pea", ever since hearing Martin Yan call it that on Yan Can Cook - one of my all time favourite Chinese cooking shows.

Here it's called mange tout, but I prefer snow pea!

Bryan,
Oh yes, I spotted their bento potential the minute I saw them. :) A sandwich multi-pak's the only way I like them. I get bored if I just have one big sandwich.

averil,
Thanks for the link!
Now you've given me ideas for the "functional" lunch box note! LOL. Just kidding. I'll stick to soppy romantic notes as far as possible. :)

sormuijai,
Heheh, yeah, pretty funny eh? I still love my meat and fatty junky fried foods, but I feel good for eating lots more of the healthy stuff.

Jess,
Aww shucks! :)

bella,
I often do prefer fresh vegies to cooked ones, which is good, as it's quick and easy to pack them into the bento box. I used to hate eating vegies too - but as I've gotten older my tastes seem to be changing (for the better, it seems!). I love vegies with something meaty and fried... but I'm trying to eat healthier meals so I've cut down on the fried stuff too.

karmalee,
I'll post my tips for less soggy sandwiches soon. :)

dea,
I love colourful food. My salads are probably very boring as they are simple and often un-dressed, but I've really been enjoying the freshness and the colour.

Hi anne,
Glad you guys like it!
I'm planning to post some of my reflections on bento, now that I've been doing it for a couple of weeks, including the issue of leakage. Stay tuned!

Hi beauty mom,
I make sure to pack the notes in with the drier items. I have on occasion placed the note in a piece of grease-proof paper, which I've folded over the note to protect it. But generally speaking I usually have a food item that's not too wet in the lunch box, so it's easy enough to pop the note in with that. The other thing I have also done is stuck the note on top of her lunch box. :)

hi, love your little notes that you attached together with the food that you prepared for jac. but just wondering won't the paper become soggy after a while? i love to put love notes in my daughters food container but i can only selectively do so with dried food. any further advice to share ?

Hi Food Pornographer and thanks for a terrific blog which my partner and I are enjoying very much! you do have a way with food ;-)

one question: do the bento boxes leak? we have had a hard time trying to find any kinda lunch box type item that won't leak salad dressing or sauce all over the place when carried in your work bag. i know they come with their own bag usually but sometimes you just want to carry lunch in your work bag!

thanks muchly and keep up the great blogs :-)

Fresh veggies are so, so good. Tasty AND healthy IS good! :D I must admit I like looking at salads because they're so colourful and so pretty. It makes eating them a lot more appealing.
