Burger and pancake brunch

31 August 2008

Last Saturday Jac and I had brunch at The Cuckoo Chef cafe at Carousel Shopping Centre. We’ve eaten there before – I wrote about it in an article published at EatingWA.

Jac was in a burger sort of mood. She ordered the chicken and bacon burger (AU$12.25), which was absolutely bursting with roast chicken, bacon, avocado, ...

Dealing with bento leakage – Bento tips and reflections #2

31 August 2008

My first bento tips and reflections post was on how to keep sandwiches from getting soggy.
I’m now going to address a topic that’s been raised by a few of my readers via comments and email:
Dealing with bento leakage
Test if your containers are leak-proof before you pack your lunches in them. Fill the bento box/lunch ...

Two nights of noodle soup

30 August 2008

Last Thursday night: Jac made me noodle soup for dinner. Thin rice vermicelli, broccoli, Chinese cabbage, beansprouts, spring onions, chicken and char siu (Jac came home from work and made char siu using a nice piece of fresh pork and Lee Kum Kee brand char siu sauce). The broth was chicken stock, topped with deepfried ...

My Thursday bento with new Shinzi Katoh bento box

28 August 2008

I’ve discovered and become a big fan of Shinzi Katoh’s work recently. When I saw this Shinzi Katoh bento box featuring a cute little cat, I just had to buy it! It’s a two-tier box with a lid that has clips to hold the tiers together, so no bento belt is necessary.

Jac didn’t need lunch, ...

Good-bye, SRM

27 August 2008

I was a little depressed last week (actually, I’m still feeling a little down) because my workmate and friend SRM had his last day of work last Wednesday. He, his wife and daughter have moved to Canada. They flew out today, actually. SRM’s wife is Canadian and it was always part of their ...

Takeaway Italian dinner

27 August 2008

On Tuesday night, Jac grabbed us dinner takeaway from Roman Palace Italian Restaurant. We’re such creatures of habit; we’ve had this exact combination of dishes before.

Garlic bread, to start:

Three cheese lasagna for Jac, extremely cheesy, saucy and meaty.

An Italian salad to share:

And for me, my favourite from Roman Palace: chicken parmigiana with spaghetti napolitana. ...

I boiled eggs and defrosted hoi sin chicken wingettes on Monday night so we could have them in our bento boxes on Tuesday. Jac’s two bento box tiers are on the left, mine on the right.

Chicken Stroganoff, garlic mash and vegetables

25 August 2008

This was dinner last Monday night (I think all I did that day was eat!) – chicken stroganoff (made using Continental stroganoff sauce from a jar), garlic mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables (green beans, capsicum, carrots and corn). Jac used boneless, skinless chicken thighs, fresh mushrooms, onion and garlic. It was yummy.

Lunch and lemon cupcake

25 August 2008

For lunch last Monday, J and I went to 88 Royal lunch bar (88a Royal St, East Perth).

She’d tried the tuna patties and salad plate for the very first time while I was on leave, and now she is hooked!

I had a rissoles and salad plate. J swapped me one of her tuna ...

Cupcakes for the animals

25 August 2008

Last Monday, my workmate R turned up to work with cupcakes which she’d made to sell for RSPCA Cupcake Day.

There were three kinds of cupcake – hazelnut (iced with Nutella and garnished with whole hazelnuts), lemon (topped with cream cheese icing and Hello Kittie lollies) and chocolate chip cookie (topped with crumbled up cookies ...
