J made these lovely cupcakes for her birthday afternoon tea. They were vanilla and raspberry cupcakes with lemon and cream cheese icing.
She brought the cupcakes to work un-iced. Just before afternoon tea, she spread the cream cheese icing liberally on the cupcakes and sprinkled little colourful flowers (what are they called?) and silver balls (I know these are called “silver cachous”) on top of each one.
See, raspberry inside! The lemon flavour in the icing was lovely. And see how thick the icing is? Fantastic! And yep, those are my toothmarks. And yes, my mouth was full of cake at the time. :)

Here in the U.S. we call those colored flowers “sugar sequins.”
First of all, I really love your blog, especially the bento ideas!
They are called dragees (my computer doesn’t like accents today!

Whoops! The silver balls are dragees.
The flowers… sprinkles?

those look delicious. Every halloween I make some sort of different desert for my friend and I when we sit on her porch drinking and passing out candy, fun right? I know.
My boyfriend is trying to drag me to a party downtown here, we’ll see if I can find me a slutty outfit haha.
I just all them sprinkles haha.
Happy Birthday J. That is such a lovely cupcake there. Makes me drool especially the cheese icing!
I LOVE the look of these – any chance you would share the recipe?
I just call those things sprinkles, hahaha. As opposed to hundreds and thousands, i guess. That is A LOT of icing! It’s a good thing I try not to consume sweets too often because I would totally OD on the icing!
Brandi,
“Sugar sequins” sounds very pretty!
pezliz,
Yes, I think a couple of my workmates were talking about “dragées”.
Carmen,
Yeah, I think sprinkles is the all-encompassing term for them. :) So, what outfit did you end up getting? I can’t stand costume parties, myself!
Hijackqueen,
They were really lovely cupcakes. The rest of us did drool!
Tiphphinne,
I’ll leave it to J to respond, if she is reading this!
dea,
Same! When I was a kid, I loved making icing sandwiches, using the icing left over whenever my mum made cakes. Sugary butter icing in a whitebread sandwich – YUM!
*drool* continuing from previous posts! i just love cupcakes and these looks exceptionally yummylicious!
