Last-minute Tuesday bento

October 7, 2008

in Bento, Home cooking

Since buying the Nintendo Wii, I’ve had to adjust my morning routine so that I can fit in a little blogging, a 30 to 40-minute WiiFit session, and packing bento for lunch, all before getting ready for work, still leaving home and getting to work at the same time I used to, pre-Wii (sorry, I just wanted to say “pre-Wii”!). I found myself running a little late last Tuesday. I intended to give bento a miss but just couldn’t help myself, and threw something together at the last minute.

Left: omelette, cheddar cheese, mini kaya sandwiches and a strawberry. Right: salad with lettuce, mushrooms, green beans and baby roma tomatoes.

Tuesday bento lunch

Yes, it was a very small lunch. I was well and truly ready for dinner by the time I got home from work that evening. As Jac would’ve said, “I’m so hungry I could eat the crotch out of a low flying duck”.

Don't miss an update!

Y T,
Yep, they’re raw mushrooms. I love mushrooms raw or cooked. Sometimes when we get home from grocery shopping and I’m putting it away, I’ll help myself to a mushroom or two out of the bag and just munch away. :)

hi TFP
i commented on your mushrooms previously (haha..this sounds funny), saying that they look like they may taste like styrofoam :P

another question..do you wash your mushrooms..and can the stalks be eaten? these two questions have been puzzling me a great deal!

thanks :)

Does the wiifit actually work? I’d like to know before purchasing if it actually gives you a workout.

Hi TFP!
If i remember correctly, you were wondering (for some time ago) whether the BigMac burger was one of a kind in being a double decker. It is not, we have one here in Sweden as well (http://www.max.se/food.aspx?page=meny&meny=1017&id=1047). I must say ours feels like a rip off, since the franchise “MAX” is, of course, younger than McD.

hy,
Never wash the mushrooms as they go all yucky when wet. I just give them a bit of a wipe if they are a little dirty. Yes, I eat them caps, stalks and all.

Kiran,
I hope you manage to track some down. I can’t believe there wouldn’t be somewhere that sells kaya over there!

Lixue,
It does give you a good workout, but you have to be dedicated to using it regularly. Read this guy’s account of using the Wiifit and see what you think: http://wiinintendo.net/2008/06/23/the-official-wii-fit-experment-results/

Y T,
They’re not for everyone, I guess. I just happen to love them. :)

e,
Mmmm, looks good to me! I presume the burger looks bigger and juicier in the picture than in reality though? All the burgers on that page look good!

dea,
It’s a Chinese omelette (egg beaten with soy sauce and white pepper), but quite a thick one, which I cut into pieces to fit neatly in the bento box. I didn’t beat it very vigorously, hence the visible clumps of egg white in the omelette.

Linda,
She likes using those sorts of phrases. Her other favourite is telling me my study is messy: “There’s sh*t from ar**h*le to breakfast time”. :)
