Wednesday work food

in Eating out, Takeaway

I found myself running late last Wednesday, and didn’t have time to pack a bento lunch. I also didn’t have time to grab breakfast before leaving for work. When I arrived at the office, I was starving. J was on her way out to get a coffee and told me she’d pick me up something to eat that I’d like. I gave her a $5 note, and this is what she returned with: a bacon and egg toasted sandwich! I don’t know where she got it from, but it was really good. Lots of bacon, and semi-gooey egg yolk, lashings of tomato sauce and lightly toasted chewy bread.

For lunch, J and I went to Noodlebox and both “designed our own” noodles. J had the thick egg noodles with double broccoli, snow peas, chicken, roast pork and big prawns, stir-fried in oyster sauce. You get two big prawns for AU$2.60, which I personally don’t think is worth it. J’s happy to pay it, though.

I chose the thin egg noodles, called “Canton noodles” on the menu, chicken, broccoli, tofu, fish cake, bok choy, beansprouts, onion and egg, stir-fried in oyster sauce. I think next time I’ll stick to the thick egg noodles. These thinner ones seemed drier, with a less springy texture and just weren’t as pleasurable to eat as the thick noodles. But I got plenty of the proteins I chose (they didn’t forget the tofu this time!), and really enjoyed my lunch. “Design your own” noodles cost more than the standard menu fare (a small box of “design your own” costs around the same as a regular box of standard menu noodles) but I much prefer being able to choose exactly what I want in my stir-fry.

I would love to be able to choose what’s in my stir fry away from home. Cool!

I can totally taste that sandwich from the picture and your description. Nice. :)

Kiran,
It was a good food day. :)

Kagenosuke,
You can choose from items including chicken, roast pork, big prawns, little shrimps, fish cake, tofu, egg, bok choy, snow peas, bean sprouts, capsicum, carrot, broccoli… and they have lots of different sauces to choose from, including oyster, honey and ginger, sweet chilli, black bean, but I can’t remember them all (that’s probably only about half of them). And there’s also the choice of noodles – thick egg ones, thin egg, flat rice noodles (kway teow), thin rice noodles…

Melissa,
It’s great being able to choose – especially if you like weird combinations that no one would ever put on the menu as a regular dish. LOL.

Holly,
It was most enjoyable. The bacon was really good bacon too – mostly lean, but with a little bit of fat. Just perfect.

SoRMuiJAi,
Hahaha, it’s entirely possible! :-D

dea,
That’s because I’ve been good and have stayed away from bacon and egg sandwiches for breaky – because they could easily become a habit. :)

beth,
Heheh. Sorry about that. :)

Cheers, Adam, glad you enjoyed it.

Hi Alisa,
Good to hear you liked it (and felt hungry)! Hope you will visit again soon.

That breakfast sandwich looks fantastic! I love the look of the slightly runny egg yolk. Yum!

And those noodles…I wish we had somewhere nearby that made noodles like that. All that sauce is gorgeous.
