Wednesday bento – BBQ sauce chicken kebabs, salad with roasted vegetables

23 October 2008

Jac bought us chicken kebabs marinated in barbecue sauce from Woolies. She cut the skewers in half so they’d fit into our lunch boxes, then cooked them on Tuesday night so I could put them in our bento on Wednesday. We’ve had these chicken kebabs before – they’re really tasty – I love them!

So ...

Juicy pork steaks

22 October 2008

On Sunday afternoon, Jac cooked up a dish with two different kinds of tinned mushrooms – champignons, “golden mushrooms” (which looked like enoki mushrooms to me), and the last of the fresh mushrooms we had in the fridge. With spring onions, peas and oyster sauce, it was my kind of dish.

During the week, ...

Tuesday bento – tuna potato patties, tartare sauce, salad, melon and kaya sandwiches

22 October 2008

Last Tuesday, I packed us the tuna patties Jac made for lunch. Here’s my bento box, with the patties, tartare sauce for dipping, salad (savoy cabbage, cherry tomatoes, yellow capsicum and cucumber), mini kaya sandwiches, prunes and watermelon cubes. Stuck in a prune is a koala food pick.

For Jac, the same lunch, except that ...

Monday bento – tuna potato balls, salad and fruit

20 October 2008

I packed us tuna potato balls, cooked by Jac on the weekend, for bento on Monday. This was my first chance to use some of my new animal food picks, which I bought from JBox. I included a container of sriracha chilli sauce for Jac to dip her tuna balls into, and tomato ...

Weekend junk food and cooking for bento

20 October 2008

Brunch: Hungry Jack’s. I had a cheeseburger and fries.

Burgers never look like they do in the ads, do they? But looking at this, I still wanted to bite into it and taste that flame-grilled beef and gooey melted cheese…

…right after I lifted the lid to show you the burger innards.

The fries were a ...

Two-nasi lemak Friday

19 October 2008

I’m a little behind with posts at the moment – the food featured in this one was eaten two Fridays ago.

I started my day with a chewy buttered toasted bagel from MYO (Royal St, East Perth). So simple, yet so satisfying.

For lunch, J and I went to Munch Terrace (Shop 6, 230 Hay ...

Thursday sandwich bento

19 October 2008

We had cheese leftover from the cheese platter the previous night’s family feast of finger foods – Jac said she’d love some cheese sandwiches for bento, so that’s what I made.

Looking at the sandwiches in the lunch box on the left, from left to right, we have: hard-boiled egg with mayonnaise and lettuce; vintage cheddar, ...

Family birthday finger food feast

17 October 2008

We celebrated Jac’s brother’s fiancee Kelsie’s birthday last Wednesday with a family feast of finger foods. We gave Kelsie a break from cooking; the party was at their house, but the rest of us did the food preparation for the evening.

This was the first of Jac’s and my contributions for the evening: fresh vegetables with ...

Wednesday wings bento

15 October 2008

Sometime ago, we marinated a batch of chicken wingettes in roasted garlic teriyaki sauce. They’d been in a bag in the freezer; Jac thawed them out and then cooked them up for bento last Tuesday night. I packed us four wingettes each, three in a compartment on a bed of shredded savoy cabbage, and one ...

Collaborative lunch of leftovers

14 October 2008

Last Monday afternoon at work, J said she’d be making roasted vegetable soup that evening. She said she’d bring some in for her lunch the next day and could bring me some too, if I liked. I suggested I bring leftover pizza for both of us so that we could have pizza and ...
