New bento bag from my sister

January 10, 2009

in Bento, Home cooking

My bento lunch: beef chipolatas left over from dinner the night before, potato salad, cherry tomatoes and green seedless grapes. The potato salad was my usual quick and easy combination of a microwaved potato cut into cubes, seasoned with a little salt and pepper, then combined with Kewpie mayonnaise, thinly sliced cucumber, carrot and spring onion.

I had been looking forward to using my new bento bag, another Christmas gift from my sister Juji.

Haha, when I was a kid in Primary School, my mother used to pack my meals in lunch boxes and a lunch box bag like that. Being a kid, I thought it was “uncool” as I wanted to a “big girl” and buy my lunch like my other friends. Haha, I used to keep the lunch box hidden in my bag and save it for dinner when I got home. Now, I wished I had someone who would pack bento meals for me. haha.

I may be biased because my favorite color is green and I love dragonflies, but that is the cutest bento bag I have ever seen.

I want one of those! In England we take our lunch to work in a clear plastic sandwich bag – dull!

Kiran,
I thought so too!

Mathew,
Juji was worried it wouldn’t fit, but I had no worries about it at all.

Su-Lin,
Yes, aren’t they great? They are just the right length too, easy to tie and not solong that they hang all over the place.

Melissa,
And I was thrilled to receive it.

sydneygirl,
When I was in school I always wished I could eat canteen food – in Malaysia, I wished I could eat the noodles or nasi lemak instead of my ham sandwiches, and then in Australia, I used to covet other people’s sausage rolls or pies. I’d love to have someone pack lunches for me too! :-P But then Jac cooks wonderful meals for me, it’s only fair that I pack lunches for her from time to time.

Steph and dea,
I know, it’s such a lovely little bag. I fell in love with it as soon as I laid eyes on it.

Kissy,
Heheh. I love my pretty lunch things. They make bringing lunch to work so much more enjoyable, I think. :)

Stacey,
I bought it from an eBay seller who had a couple of these bento boxes left over. But he’s not selling any more. The only thing I can suggest is you trawl the web and look at bento suppliers – someone may sell this range. If I see any, I’ll let you know.

Hi,

could you ask your sister where she got that pattern for the bento bag? I love it and want to sew it myself…

Katharina,
She bought the bag from a shop. So, sorry to say, she doesn’t have the pattern for it.

Oh, that’s a shame – it looks great. But I think, I can reconstruct it – I just have to wait for my new bento box to be delivered, so I can take the measurements.

Thank you (and your sister) for the idea!
