I had teriyaki fish and rice from Jaws Mint (opposite the Perth Mint) for lunch. As usual, I ignored the pile of pink pickled ginger in the corner. The fish pieces were on the thin side, but still tasty, with caramelised teriyaki saucy edges.
For dessert, she served me sponge cake (bought from Woolworths supermarket) with a layer of kaya in the middle – yum!

I absolutely love Jaws Mint, but I’m not sure that I rate their lunchtime foods, to be honest. Have you been there for dinner? It is a bit pricey but -so- good. Rhys and I went there for our anniversary last year and had the tasting menu ($45pp for 5 courses), and we will be going back in a couple of weeks time to try the sushi plates — the one I have my eye on is about $32 for entree, mixed sushi (something like 17 pieces!!) and dessert. SO good. :P I will be very, very full by the end of it.
mmmm donut….
No idea why, but those donuts look *SO* cute!
I LOVE cake doughnuts! They just have so much more substance than regular fluffy ones.
And I’ve been meaning to ask: what cut of chicken do you and Jac usually cook with? It looks so different than chopped up chicken breast that I’m used to (possibly from preparation), and I just had to solve the mystery now instead of reading all future posts and continue scratching my head.
wahhhh the cake and kaya looks yum!
i wonder what it would taste like if you put it in a sandwich press haha, it would be like a semi- sponge-cakey-kaya-hot-sandwhich.
mmmmm
I have E71 too ..
Erin,
We would like to get to Jaws Mint for dinner but just haven’t managed it yet. The tasting menu sounds good. If only we weren’t so lazy after work!
jetgirl,
Oh yeah. I love donuts.
Sammy,
That donut looks like a thigh or a bum, to me! :-P
David,
Chicken thigh all the way! We buy them boneless and skinless most of the time. I find the flavour of thigh far superior to that of breast, and it’s moist and succulent.
mikeymikemike,
Interesting idea. Shame there’s no more cake to try that out with!
Noor,
Cool! I love it. I keep doing more things with it and loving it more and more…
