Breakfast at Shots with C

in Eating out, Family and friends, Reflections

If I didn’t blog, I’d have never met my friend C. As well as being a brilliant photographer, she’s my great “makan buddy” (“eating” friend). In my second last week at my old job, we met up for breakfast at Shots Espresso Bar (528 Hay St, Perth) and both ordered from the specials board.

C ordered the poached eggs, fried chorizo and rocket on toast, which came sprinkled with black pepper and an artistic drizzle of balsamic vinegar.

C enjoyed this dish, but did think her eggs would’ve been better a touch softer in the middle.

I had the same dish as my previous breakfast at Shots – honey glazed ham, roasted tomato, rocket and brie on toast. There was more sliced brie under the ham, which melted down deliciously on the toast into a gooey, chewy and savoury layer. The tomatoes were beautiful – sweet and roasted so that they were softened but not cooked so much that they fell apart. I could still carve sweet tomato mouthfuls and spear them with my fork along with a bit of ham, rocket and cheese.

Here are my last two mouthfuls of toast, brie, rocket and ham.

Whenever we’ve been out to breakfast before work, C’s been so full she’s turned down morning teas and hasn’t needed to eat lunch! This day was no exception. As for me, I would’ve struggled to eat morning tea – luckily there were none organised that day – but I had no problem eating lunch as usual. :)

C and I have been enjoying meals together for a while!

Tomorrow is our last day of our time away, so I probably won’t have the time to post. I can’t wait to share the photos I’ve taken and tell you all about our holiday – it’s been great. :-D

Wow, that poached egg looks so good! I think breakfast food is probably the best looking as far as restaurant meals go. It’s a shame I never find the time to eat out before work! :(

Haven’t watched FF4, so unless something catastrophic happens, we’re definitely watching it together.

I’ve been told Taurus’ quality has gone down, and the people that used to manage it are now next door (literally) in something called Bamboo? I’ve not gone there yet though, so no personal verdict on that one.

Funny how we met through blogging, when it would have been so much easier to meet in uni ;)

Scrum-diddly-umtious! God, I miss a good bloody Australian cafe brunch. Europeans just can’t pull it off like this. *drool*

We went to Taurus the other day and it certainly wasnt the same and things had changed like menu/prices/counter/size of meal. food was good but not the same. couldn’t put finger on why though.

the bamboo place was very busy.

C your lunch looks amazing, I love a soft poached egg – I always ask for it to be runny when I order and chorizo sausage *drool*

OH! The poached eggs, fried chorizo and rocket on toast looked amazing… I always giggle when I see Mexican food (the sausage in this case) used in such a strange way… In Mexico chorizo is typically mashed into eggs and potatoes – but I could totally dig this way…

Linda, I’ve yet to come across eggs benedict that beat the one I had at Ba Ba Black (http://www.thefoodpornographer.com/?p=1233). Their breakfasts are quite magnificent, and very filling!

Cookie,
Once I get fully settled into my new job I hope there’ll be opportunities to have the odd breaky with friends before work. In fact, my friend Chad and I have already been strategising! :-P

C,
OK – so where should we go to see FF4?
Oh no! That’s not good news about Taurus. Will have to check out Bamboo.
I think meeting through blogging was better. I don’t really have many friends from my uni days. :)

estelle,
I’d love to be in UK/Europe someday to compare them personally. :-D

Sam,
Well, if Taurus is managed by different people but Bamboo is ex-Taurus with good food, I won’t be too unhappy. Must check it out soon.

Fiona,
Heheh, success! :)

Linda,
I often forget to ask for soft yolks when I order eggs – they should ask you as standard, like asking you how you’d like your steak done, I reckon.

Bryan,
We recently ate pizza on holiday that had chorizo on it, as well as the usual bacon and pepperoni etc. Chorizo is good in so many different dishes!

yy,
They were around the $15 mark, from memory.

C,
I agree with you – the Ba Ba breakfasts are gargantuan and delicious.

dea,
Brie’s not one of my favourite cheeses (I can take it or leave it), but it was very good in this dish.
