Donut disappointment!

in Takeaway

Ever since my first Krispy Kreme donut, I’ve been wishing they’d open a store here in Perth. Well, someone’s decided to fill the glazed donut void with their own version – Dreamy Donuts. There’s a new Dreamy Donuts stand at Carousel Shopping Centre. They offer glazed and filled donuts that look very Krispy Kreme-esque (no crullers though!). I decided to try one myself recently and after much careful consideration, selected a strawberry cream donut.

I thought it was a strawberry cream donut - that's what I asked for and that's what they gave me!

When I got home and bit into my donut, I was dismayed and bitterly disappointed to taste flavour that was completely different to what I’d expected! I bought what I thought was a strawberry cream donut but instead got one filled with… cheesecake! It definitely wasn’t a bizzaro strawberry cream that had gone off, either – Jac and I both tasted it again – yep, definitely cheesecake. Mysteriously, there’s no cheesecake on the Dreamy Donuts menu (unless there was a special of the day that I don’t recall, which somehow masqueraded as a strawberry cream donut), but you’ll see on the Dreamy Donuts menu that the criss-cross pattern on the donut I received does resemble the strawberry cream donut depicted on the menu. “Curiouser and curiouser!”

It's a cheesecake donut

I may try another dreamy donut another time – I do like the sound of Tia Maria and hazelnut. But I think we’ll just have to continue buying Krispy Kremes from the airports whenever we travel over east, or get friends and relatives to do the same.

Don't miss an update!

I wonder, though, did the cheesecake filled donught taste not nice? Or was it the fact that you were expecting something completely different? Would you have liked it if it was advertised like cheese cake?

Just curious! I know your feeling exactly anyway…There´s a sandwich spanish franchise that I only get to eat whenever I am over or someone I know travels to Spain…I dream about them all the time though!

Hey, cheesecake donut doesnt have choc crisscross on it. It just a plain glaze. They have cheesecake donuts almost daily, but I think they accidentally put the wrong filling in yours.

I don’t know. A donut filled with cheesecake sounds awesome! I was recently diagnosed with Celiac and dream about the days when i used to eat Krispy kreme.

How curious! But despite your disappointment, I must say that a donut with cheesecake in it sounds rather delicious!

I was quite surprised to (last month) read an older blog post wherein you mention Krispy Kreme there in Oz. Their goodies have only been available in my region of the U.S. since about 6 years ago; prior to that I’d only heard (and dreamed). I guess KK is really revving up the franchise thing. :-)

p.s.: I notice Dreamy Donuts offers a “Musk Donut.” That’s completely odd to me; musk is always a scent (cologne). Googled for info, to no avail.

Sorry yours was a disappointment, TFP.

Ali,
I haven’t tried them yet… I am quite partial to cinnamon donuts, so I’m sure I’ll try one eventually.

lalalu,
It was probably ok, but I’d been so looking forward to the strawberry cream that my disappointment killed any chance of my enjoyment of the unexpected cheesecake filling. The other thing is, I don’t mind eating cheesecake, but I prefer it as cheesecake, with the biscuit base etc – I don’t like it as a filling.

flower,
Yep – I guess that is what happened!

peter, dea,
See my response to lalalu above. :)

Laura,
Oh I would’ve been very disappointed with that too!

Cindy,
KK has made it to some of the states of Aust, but not to Western Australia where I live. I will continue to live in hope. :)
Musk is a lolly / candy flavour as well as being a perfume – I don’t like musk-flavoured lollies myself. See: Lifesaver Musk for a better idea of what musk-flavoured lollies are like.

Okay, thanks for the link to Lifesaver Musk. :) That explains a bit. Some of the comments are a hoot: Afraid it’d taste like hippes; what’s next, baby powder flavor? And one person notes Americans have a strong aversion. That would include me, though I’m adventurous; I would try one (Lifesaver…not sure I’d brave a Musk Donut). ;-p

Cindy,
Heheheh. You’d never catch me trying musk anything! Jac loves musk lollies.

raina,
That’s another reason for me to have a holiday in KL! :)
