Bento – panfried salt and pepper chicken with salad

August 8, 2009

in Bento, Home cooking

A bento from a few weeks ago! Jac panfried four chicken thigh fillets which she’d simply rubbed in salt and pepper, and I packed us chicken and salad for lunch. The salad consisted of mixed greens, grape tomatoes, cucumber, green beans, mushrooms, sliced sweet gherkin pickles and corn kernels.

I packed Kiri cream cheese in Jac’s lunch box.

In my lunch box, a slice of Jarlsberg cheese, rolled up.

In the bento note I drew for Jac – a thanks for a great weekend of house-hunting, delicious chicken and love (all together now – awwwww! :-P).

As always, I packed Jac a little bread and butter to eat with her chicken and salad. I rarely miss bread, but Jac craves it.

I just love your notes!

Regarding Jac’s bread cravings, the other month I met a French couple who told us their in-laws will not sit down to a meal unless there is bread. Bread is extremely important in Europe. Travelling across Spain, my partner said he’d never had so much bread in his life! :D

Very nice. Thanks for stating what “Kiri” is; I was Kiri-ous. ;-) Cream cheese isn’t packaged in such small portions here in the U.S., that I’ve seen. The salad is an interesting combo. And yes, I also like your notes. Bread and butter: I’m with Jac; love bread.

hannyb,
Heheh. Luckily, Jac understands my need for rice and noodles, so we have a good balance of meals, some with bread, some without.

Cindy,
The little Kiri portion is like a kid’s portion – we buy a variety pack of mini cheeses from the supermarket which are perfect to throw into a bento box. If you google it, you’ll be able to find out more (most of the time, if I write about something new to you, you’ll be able to find out more just by googling). I love sweet pickles in a salad – it’s probably not the done thing, but we enjoy it.

What a simple yet tasty looking lunch. Chicken thighs are definitely one of the tastiest kinds of meat and are highly underrated in my opinion! I also love how you put pickles in the salad (as I’ve eaten most of a jar of pickles in one sitting more than I’d like to admit!).

Fiona,
That would’ve been so yummy! I love baby corn spears in a green curry but I imagine corn kernels off the cob would be fantastic.

Megan,
I love chicken thighs – they are my favourite meat / cut of all time. I love the flavour as well as the crunchy texture of these sweet pickles.
