Pie, bun, tart

A chicken pie from Brumby’s bakery. Mmm, it smelled great.

Chunks of chicken, with peas and corn kernels in a nicely seasoned white sauce. The pastry was crisp. I really enjoyed eating my pastry crescent moon.

An iced cinnamon bun, also from Brumby’s. A little too strong on the cinnamon, I thought, but yummy all the same.

A portugese egg tart from Woolworth’s supermarket – this was really good. The custard was perfect on the three “s” of custard – sweet, smooth and soft. The pastry was flaky and chewy. I must have one of these again soon.

Ive always wanted to try making one of those portugese tarts but they’re so tricky to get right!
Will have to try one of those for inspiration!

I’ve tried Woolies portugese tart. Yeah, you are right, its not that bad.

In Malaysia I used to eat portugese tart from King Cofectionery. Just like your office, in my office, sometimes my boss or my office mates would buy some food to be shared by all. Sometimes we get tarts, goreng pisang or cakes. On a good day, the boss will by some pizza or KFC for the whole office.

I’m jealous, I’ve never seen a chicken pie that looked so good at our local Brumby’s and I’ve certainly never seen a cinnamon roll for sale anywhere but Starbucks in Australia and oh, how I love my cinnamon rolls!

The pastry crescent moon is such a pretty touch! Nice to see some folks still putting pride in their work. I’m missing small chunks of potato though. ;-) The egg tart looks promising; I’d like to try one.

Wow that cinnamon roll looks SO good! Especially with all the crumbly sugar and cinnamon on top. You just gave me a major craving for one!

A friend of mine makes lovely cinnamon rolls – she used a Finnish recipe (yes, Finnish! sounds exotic yeah?) as she’d been living in Finland for the first half of the year. Anyway the ones she makes are light and fluffy and are very cute mini ones. No icing though, she glazes the top with some beaten egg and generously sprinkles Demarera sugar on top. She tried to teach me but mine turned out a little damp. Round 2 hasn’t materialised yet though!

Dave,
I’m too lazy to make my own, so it’s very handy to have them available at Woolies! And Nando’s! Though to buy them individually like this is on the expensive side.

flower,
I really miss real goreng pisang. On Saturdays when dad would pick up my mum from work, they would come home with a big packet of goreng pisang and we would all eat that for lunch. So good. And sometimes mum would ask the goreng pisang man for extra batter bits because us kids loved all those bits.

Lil D,
We can get cinnamon buns at bakeries and lunch bars around the place, but they can be disappointing (usually because they aren’t fresh!).

Tra,
LOL.

Cindy,
They don’t usually put potato in the pies here – I wish they did, though, I love potato in gravy!

Megan,
:D

dea,
Mmmm, even without icing, your description sounds good.

Nicole
:D I knew you’d approve.
