I mentioned some time ago on the TFP Facebook page that we bought a dishwasher. The cats loved the dishwasher. Well, the dishwasher box. We bought the dishwasher on a late night Thursday at the shops but didn’t get it installed until over a week later. In the meantime, the cats had a great time sitting on the dishwasher box.
Billy Lee is not very good at jumping up high – she’s never been a good jumper. We watch her repeatedly doing run-ups and failing. Poor Billy, it’s hard not to laugh sometimes. We were so surprised to find her one evening, sitting on the box like the queen of the castle.
It didn’t take long for Pixel to decide she wanted to join Billy Lee on top of the box.
Two seconds later, she was up there. Billy Lee shuffled over grudgingly. Later on, we discovered how Billy Lee was getting up onto the box – she was climbing up the black shelves NEXT to the box, then jumping across. Pixel just did a standing jump from the floor, straight up.
They sat like this for ages. I took this photo of the cats watching Jac intently as she cooked dinner.

Billy Lee’s method of getting up onto the dishwasher box is actually really smart! :) I love that last photo of them. It really brings across the different kinds of cute they are. Billy Lee looks rather melancholic and woeful, and Pixel just looks like she’s plotting a scheme to steal food from the kitchen or something. ;)

What is it with cats and boxes? Ours never play with the expensive toys but a cardboard box gives hours of fun! Did you give them the empty box to play with? Great fun!

Your description of Billy Lee’s jumping skills made me laugh. My (biggish) kitten is just starting to learn how to jump to high places, but when he was little it was funny and sad to see him try and fall.
The cats are really cute. By the way,I love the look of your new house. It’s so bright, and the french doors are beautiful. Contrats on it.
Ahh yes, the nightly making-dinner ritual where the cats stare and hope we drop something tasty on the floor. :P

She is very hard to spot in the dark! All she has to do is close her eyes and she becomes invisible!

The box had been sitting there for over a week and Jac was sick of it being in the way, so we threw it into the recycling bin straight away. But the cats have plenty of places to sit and hang out – they have blankets and rugs and furniture and rooms to play in/on.

Oh yes, Pixel is especially hopeful! And if we walk away and the smell is tempting enough, she will jump up on the bench to help herself. Very naughty!

It has great lighting in the mornings especially! The cats have quickly worked out how nice it is to sit by the window in the sunshine each day.
