As workmate J said, when talking about my MYO toasted wraps: “You pick funny fillings. It’s just like a little kid’s been allowed to make her own sandwich.” :D
I’ve mentioned before what my standard wrap fillings are: chicken, semi sundried tomatoes, pickles, corn, mushrooms, fruit chutney, pineapple, and sometimes green capsicum, fresh tomato or swiss cheese. I’m not expecting anyone else to like this combination!
When I was in primary school, a boy I knew liked raw onion and green capsicum sandwiches for lunch. He was the same boy who ate cat biscuits one Saturday afternoon because he was curious about how they tasted. And then told everyone about it at school on Monday. :-P Do you have a favourite combination of sandwich fillings that other people think is weird?

- cheese and heinz (MUST be heinz) tomato ketchup.
- cheddar cheese and raw onion (preferably white).
i had a panino for lunch today that tasted like it had cream of mushroom soup inside it. it was surprisingly tasty!
Cheddar cheese, alfalfa sprouts, and mayonnaise on whole wheat bread.
Corned beef, cooked cabbage, and mustard on rye.
Fried hot dogs scrambled with egg on whole wheat bread or a tortilla.
Cream cheese and strawberry preserves on whole wheat.
tuna mixed with hummus with pickles on top
Mine would be tasty cheese and sliced up pickled onions.
But I always thought my ex husbands favourite sandwich was strange: chicken, grated cheese and tomato sauce!
or my Dad – his favourite cheese and apricot jam on rye bread.
nutella and cheese (semi-mature is good)
strawbeery jam and chedder cheese on toasted bread
When I was a kid I used to make the weirdest sandwich…
Ham, beetroot, pickled onions, peanut butter, tomato sauce and sugar.
Actually made one a couple of years back for my wife’s little sister and she admitted it actually tasted pretty good.
Crisp iceberg lettuce and crunchy peanut butter, or onion dip, tomato and potato chips. Mmmm!!!
When I was in elementary school, I had a cheese and mustard sandwich every day for lunch. I haven’t had one in many many, years… I might have to try one just to see if my tastes have changed!
@AZ, I’m a cream cheese + strawberry jam fan too. On whole wheat bread or a bagel. :)
I also used to like peanut butter and kaya sandwiches, but now I just do plain margarine and kaya. :P
side frm the green capsicum (which i only like on a pizza!), and sweet corn (which i prefer to eat on its own, with hot butter), your sandwich fillings are EXACTLY what id go for!
I love to use cilantro instead of lettuce on a crunchy turkey ciabatta… it is such a pungent sharp flavor…
I have honey and Vegemite on toast although i don’t really have any weird sandwich combinations other than putting salad dressing in my sandwich haha
Does the corn pieces fall out of your wraps? or are they melted with the cheese? I miss MYO sooo much, wish they had it in all the suburbs too not just the city :(
My fav combo is Tuna mix (whole egg mayo with chopped onions and pickles – mixed with tuna) with tomatoes and another pickle on the side
I’ve always wanted those crazy pregnancy sandwich cravings. The good old peanut butter and pickle or cream and sausage (ok made that last one up)
So far my most far out sandwich fillings have been Samboy BBQ chips and mayo, strawberry jam and lemon curd.. and then pizza sauce and leftover beef roast.
When i was a kid: margarine and sugar on white bread. I LOVED it.
Now, slightly more conventional: chicken slices, cheese, baby spinach, thinly sliced mushrooms (raw), and an egg if I’m eating it at home. But sometimes, i put ketchup in it.
The only thing which strikes me as strange about your choice of toasted wrap fillings is pickle. But to each their own.
The boy who tried cat biscuits, lol! I took a bite of a dog biscuit once; yuck.
No, I don’t have any strange sandwich fillings. I do have a crazy pizza combo though: Pepperoni, Italian sausage, diced green chile peppers, onion, pineapple. :-) With the crust and cheese that’s all savoury, crunchy, chewy, salty: It’s all there!
I created this sandwich when I was a kid and we were camping. Toasted white bread with bbq sauce, mayo and a fried egg. I still love it but the yolk must be runny.
That’s a bit like what my mum used to make us for brekkie: toast, runny yolk fried egg and ketchup. It’s apparently called an egg banjo, due to the fact that when you bite into it, the yolk invariably squirts out of the sandwich and down your tshirt, which you then try to rub away in a ‘playing the banjo’ fashion :D
i still prefer the usual bacon and cheese.
or maybe an onion ring or two.
i always ask for a lot of raw onions in my subs. most people think it’s weird, but i like the spicy crunch of raw onions.
White bread, pickle, raw onion, chinese mustard, and BBQ potato chips with bologna. I think it tastes great, but I love strong flavors.
Peanut butter with Marmite. Peanut butter with bacon is also good.
I love turkey breast, apple slices and alfalfa sprouts. People are always look at me strange when I cut apple slices into my sandwich.
Everything sounded good until you got to the pineapples! I always make a wrap with chicken, cheddar cheese, a slice of pickle, dry coleslaw mix, hot sauce and mustard. Yea…I’m pretty weird. I also like anything with hummus and salsa on it too!
There is actually a website devoted to this – http://www.wildrecipes.com – you realise you’re not alone with your odd tastes!
i must add that my family found my hankering for bread, butter and tomato sauce TOTALLY WEIRD. it was bloody brilliant. still is.
hmm..
mayo, tuna, spicy crisps, a touch of tobasco.
yum.
I love olive oil, polony and ice magic on soft white bread. Sounds really bad but is actually delicious! The olive oil has to be mixed with the ice magic and then poured over the polony. People say I’m mad but it really is the best. My friend almost vomited when she had a bite – more for me I say!!!
sangeeta:
you’re not alone there – me, too! has to be white bread, though. and heinz ketchup. :)
I really like the sound of your wrap. I love different filling, things that don’t seem as though they would go together but surprisingly they do.I like peanut butter, vegemite, cottage cheese and vinegar cucumber or pickles on grain bread. Swiss cheese with almost anything. And like some other people, I love raw onion, and funnily enough, with a quick chew on gum, my breath doesn’t smell. I’ve been lucky like that. I love garlic and onions and don’t have to suffer for it and neither does anyone else :D Oh oh, hot chips, butter and aioli or kewpie mayo on a roll. MMMM. UURGH, can you hear my arteries hardening?
PS: This is a great blog. Discovered it about a month ago. Been having a great time looking through the archives. Thanks.
jessi,
thats right! only soft, white bread would do! nothing toasted, as well.
as for the ketchup, i think i had maggi tomato ketchup – tht was the only one we stocked at home when i was a kid!
ah, i’m british, and so heinz was always the staple. even now, i find the others too sugary.
argh, why do i have to be in italy where proper white bread and heinz ketchup don’t seem to exist?! :(
i think its time to write to sainsburys or tesco and get them to open up a big supermarket in italy!
i lived in england for 7 yrs and there, my maths teacher wld on occasion heated up tinned ratatouille in a microwave for abt a minute, and then pour hot melted cheese all over it. that was grand. i liked putting tht into white bread too.
I read that as ‘tinned ravioli’ and still thought it sounded awesome as a sandwich filling with melted cheese, mmmm lol!
Hahahah, I loved reading all your sandwich combos! It’s so cool finding out what others like to eat. :D
These are the ones that most appealed to my taste:
Corned beef, cooked cabbage, and mustard on rye
Fried hot dogs scrambled with egg on whole wheat bread or a tortilla
Strawberry jam and cheddar cheese
Tasty cheese and sliced up pickles
Crisp iceberg lettuce and crunchy peanut butter
Chicken slices, cheese, baby spinach, thinly sliced mushrooms
Toasted white bread with bbq sauce, mayo and a fried egg
Turkey breast, apple slices and alfalfa sprouts
:D
ranee,
Some of the fillings do fall out of my wrap if I’m not careful as I eat it – even if I include swiss cheese I don’t use a lot of it so there’s not much cheese to glue it all in.
annie,
I’m pleased you’ve discovered my blog and that you’re enjoying it! :D
I tend to like a traditional PBJ but throw something hot in there, like wasabi or jalapenos. I haven’t had the wasabi one since I went on a field trip in high school. A friend of mine had bought sushi while we were out at lunch but didn’t like wasabi, so I put it in the sandwich I packed. Delicious!
Ok, am a little late at joining in but thought I would post anyway!
Seeded bread, no butter, rare beef (lots of), mozzarela (?), sliced olives, capers, English mustard, jalapeos and cracked black pepper. Mmmmmm.
This sounds like my dream sandwich, although I’d probably toast it too :D
I love a salt bagel with strawberry cream cheese and turkey! salty and sweet best of both worlds.
Late on this..but the oddest sandwich filling i ‘ve had is mayo and strawberry jam…it’s gooood :D…and chicken, apples, mustard and lettuce is always delish :D
Yum in my tum…
Leftover white or brown rice
Really ripe avocado
Maggi sauce
Black pepper
Cottage cheese or greek yogurt
Mash everything together in a favourite cereal bowl.
Nuke until hot.
Devour.
On a seeded roll or sandwich: Smoked Ham, Swiss Cheeses, sliced strawberry and rocket leaves. Yummy, I did this once because I like something red in colour in my sandwich and didn’t have any tomatoes or red capsicum. Sounds strange but it worked.
Rather late on the bandwagon, but my favourite would be, haloumi cheese, pesto sauce and grilled peppers
I’m not so keen on pesto but oh yes, I love squeaky cheese! Grilled peppers are beautiful too – so I’d love haloumi with grilled peppers in a sandwich. For me perhaps a generous spreading of aioli. :D
Wrap – sweet chilli sauce, Chicken Tikka, sun dried tomatoes, lettuce, red onion or peppers.
Awesome!
Let me know what you think?try it.
my daughter requested a tuna and baconn sandwich recently. she settled on a cheese and sweetcorn sandwich instead… my favourite filling is hummous, carrot, tuna, red pepper, spinach and tiny slick of red pesto – mmmmmmm
1. peanut butter, banana and honey (or sometimes chocolate syrup instead of honey)
2. sliced turkey, fried egg, and pepper jack cheese (monterey jack with jalapeno peppers)
