I enjoyed these honey soy & chicken noodles from Noodlebox. There was chicken, baby corn and bok choy along with the thick egg noodles. And they were really saucy.
When the girl handed me my brown paper bag it felt extra heavy. She smiled and said “We’ve given you a free dim sim.” Just like that, no reason, just a freebie. Which made me instantly suspicious, because I am a suspicious, cynical person. I presumed they had a bunch of dim sims to use up (cooked in error? thawed out and had to be used up or thrown away?) and decided to use them for some good PR. I just thought all this, didn’t say anything – but I thanked her. Back at the office I opened the carton holding the dim sim. The dumpling didn’t look appetising at all. It reminded me of an alien or a brain or a gigantic wad of chewed chewing gum – but it actually tasted quite good with the supplied soy sauce. I probably wouldn’t buy one in future though. Still, I always appreciate a freebie.
The noodles were gloriously messily saucy. The pool of sauce seemed to get bigger and darker the further I got down the carton. I always ask for a spoon as well as chopsticks, so I can drink up all the sauce after I’ve eaten all the noodles. I once tried drinking the sauce from the carton like a cup, trying to sip elegantly from one of the carton’s corners, but ended up pouring garlicky noodle sauce all down myself. Not a good idea to take a garlic sauce bath in one’s work clothes. I learned my lesson.
You’ll find the honey soy & chicken noodles on the regular menu at Noodlebox – AU$8.60 small, $12.50 regular (regular is rather large). It also includes cashew nuts (I had mine without).

Woah their really saucy but looks good!
Any freebie is good, better if it’s more then 1.
I’ve tried that! What you need to do is drink from the corner. Just keep down the two adjacent tabs and sip freely from the exposed corner. =D
Wow, I’m amazed at how hard-core you are with your sauce, drinking it at the end?!? I’m a super salt addict and I have to say that it sounds like you beat me! The noodles look great too.. I’ve never seen such dark sauce before!
The noodles look really REALLY good. Honey and soy sounds like a most delicious noodle marinade. I think I would’ve liked the addition of cashew, even if they add fat and richness to the dish. ;)
We had Chinese yesterday and I ordered my dish with lo mein. Love those soft noodles too. Yours looks too saucy for me; I added just a sprinkle of soy sauce to my plate.
Yeah, the dim sum looks like a miniature brain – lol.
In college, 1986, a lady from Beijing studying there made homemade dumplings at a resident house. They were FAN-tastic. Her name was Dorcas. I watched her make the dumplings (she wouldn’t let me help, but that was probably for the best); what a feast that was!
The Food looks awesome as always. I know the employee called it dim sum, but it’s actually a dumpling. Dim sum refers to the dishes or cuisine that is usually served with tea. So…while the dumpling is usually served as a part of dim sum, it’s not actually called dim sum.
OMG sooooo worthy the honey soy chicken is soooooo good, you get like this tiny box and think wtf?!?! i need more!! but the box is packed full, I’m talking PACKED FULL, its sooo worth it.
Josh,
yep – I’ve been amazed and impressed by how much they shove in that box. Even when it’s the small box it’s still a good feed. (Which makes me feel even more like a pig because sometimes I get the big box and finish it!)
