in Competitions, Events

EDIT: Read my post about the Good Food & Wine Show Perth 2010

Good Food & Wine ShowI’ll be attending this year’s Perth Good Food & Wine Show! I’ll be tweeting from the show and of course blogging my experience. It will be my first time at a Good Food & Wine Show and Jac will be coming along too. I’m looking forward to spending a day wandering around the show with her, camera in hand, eating pants on – it should be great fun!

I love looking at exhibits and stalls and checking out all the interesting products (food, gadgets etc) and I love tasting free samples! I’m also keen to eat at the show restaurant (of course)!

We have some serious decisions to make: which celebrity chef(s) do we want to see in action in the celebrity theatre? And which cooking class should we go to? There’s lots more to do, including activities for wine lovers and a cheese masterclass – check out the list of attractions for more information!

Oohh hii! (:

Mine would be about molecular gastronomy run by Ferran Adria! Simply because it is among my wildest dream and probably on my bucket list to dine there but it is quite impossible i reckon. Everyone talks about how awesome and strange molecular gastronomy is – i would love a first hand experience! Food and science ♥

What a hard question. To just chose 1 person…well I have filtered through my top 5 list and come up with the winner..(drum roll)……………..

RICK STEIN

My passion for eating seafood needs to be matched in the cooking area. To be able to prepare and perfect the art of cooking and plating seafood is one that would see me be crowned a goddess amongst my seafood obsessed family.

I would love to have the a class with Heston Blumenthal! It would be awesome to witness his scientific approach in preparing food. It is so cool to wear lab coat in the kitchen!

Oh my, this sounds exciting. I’ve never heard of any of the chefs, but I’m looking forward to hearing about it. Also.. I definitely laughed out loud when I read “eating pants.”

Hi!! I would definately have to choose Nigella!! She is my first and favourite TV chef. I love how she usually cooks simple no fuss kind of food, but makes it look so sophisticated and quite indulgent!

Mine would be with Nigella Lawson – my food hero – I love the way she describes food – so seductively – of course the class would have to be about all things extravegant and naughty to eat mmmmm

Ok, I might be in Singapore but I’ve been following Masterchef Australia through an online source (heheh). I have got to say that I would love to see George Calombaris in person, just to see if he’s as cheesy as the lines he dishes out on TV!

My dream masterclass would be with Nigella Lawson to learn anything she would like to teach! I love Nigella :)

It would have to be with Nigella! She is so super sexy and all woman. It doesn’t matter what she cooks, she makes it seem divine! I have a crush on Nigella :)

My dream cooking masterclass would be a Pâtisserie Masterclass with Jamie Oliver as the presenter!

Reply

I would definately have to say Justin North from Becasse resturant! His new book Inspirations and Flavours is wonderful, i’d love him to cook something from the book for me to work on at home.

Plus he’s very easy on the eye, i’d happily watch him doing the washing up too :-)

Thanks TFP

I’ve already had this dream, cooking up a storm with Jamie Oliver. Cooking is not a job it is his passion.

Hi TFP

My dream masterclass would definately be about baking indulgent sweet treats and would presented by none other than Nigella Lawson. She’s such an inspiration because she’s so passionate about food.

I would love to cook with Jamie Oliver or Stephanie Alexander both amazing people with many delicious recipes. They are not only passionate about food and cooking, they are also passionate about health and have actively used their celebrity profile to effect change in the community!

Awesome!

A masterclass with Maggie Beer and how she’s been using local Aussie produce for years. She’s been around for so long and virtually one of the very first to go into the (premium) pre packaged food business. I love the fact she started in the partridge business by way of dressing her husband’s birds and having to find a way to create a market for the product. A darned smart, savy woman who is where she is today by hard work, luck, opportunity and skill. I’d probably want a masterclass with fish, meat and fowl… :-) Not asking for much….

A master class with anything dessert related by Adriano Zumbo. After seeing all the goodies he created on Master Chef especially the crockenbouche was totally amazing!

Jamie Oliver hands down – not only is he a well known and loveable character, he uses this celebrity status to his advantage to try and make a change – everything from his Ministry of Food, to healthier eating options in schools, even his controversial topics like the treatment of animals. He is inspiring with what he strives to do and best of all – his cooking is just amazing – simple, delicious, and absolutely “porny” :D

I would love to have a masterclass along the lines of his Ministry of Food series – nice and affordable meals that any individual, couple or family can make and enjoy!

Ok, not from Australia so can’t win a prize, have to leave a comment though!
I’d be greedy and have two masterclasses.

1. Nigel Slater, if you read any of his books you can taste the passion he has for everyday eating. TFP – you have to read his books ‘Toast’ and ‘The Kitchen Diaries’, beautifully written and the books version of food porn.

2. The other would have to be the late Keith Floyd, he hardly ever followed the rules, enjoyed a drink whilst he cooked and could be a grumpy bugger!

“What would your dream cooking masterclass be about”

Pastries. Anything sweet.

“and who would be the presenter?”

Hayden Christensen. :-) Because he’s sweet (will keep this “G” rated lol!).

Hmmm, a masterclass? Should it be Emmanuel Mollois for his delicious sweets? Or Maggie Beer for her experience and down to earth approach to food? How about Nigella Lawson for being, well…gorgeous Nigella Lawson? Or Jamie Oliver for his simple everyday recipes and being a passionate advocate for better eating?

No, if only one masterclass I would love it to be with Kylie Kwong. For her passion for chinese cooking and keeping that part of her family history alive and for her commitment to sustainability and ethical eating. But mainly because her food looks so yummy and I would love to learn how to make some of it for myself.

Hmmm, this has caused much debate in our house! I’d really like to learn how to make the perfect macaron, but I’d don’t know who is the expert…probably a French chef?

I would love a seafood masterclass with Peter Gilmore. Just to see him create a delicate work of art for the eyes and palate would be heaven!!!!

Reply

23 Pina June 4, 2010 at 3:11 pm

Although no longer alive, Julia Childs. I really relate to her because I’m the type who loves to try recipe after recipe after recipe; it’s a never-ending addiction with me! I also love that her passion for food was something she shared with her family – I’m always cooking and baking and never eating the product (not because it’s no good, because I always give it all away)!

24 Kat June 4, 2010 at 3:38 pm

It would have to be Emmanuel Stroobant “The Chef in Black” of St Pierre in Singapore. His fine French food is creative yet elegant and he comes across as a really nice person (seen him on first series of Masterchef 1). He’s easy on the eye too which can be pleasant while learning :P

i think there is an amazing field of real foodies in Tassie, so happy to see pretty much anyone from Tassie, but particularly interested in Cheesemaker Diane Rae @ Grandvewe, the only organic sheeps cheese producer in Australia. I’d love to know more about making cheese!

i’m not in australia, so don’t include me in the prize draw, thanks, but it would have to be gino d’campo. i’ve lived in italy for almost a year now, and i still know next to nothing about its food. plus, gino is hot. <3

failing that, heston blumenthal. i loved the show he did in the uk on saving the little chef motorway cafés.

When my mum first told me about nose to tail cooking in my early teens, I vowed that I would become vegetarian. So many years later, there’s no doubt that meat is my favorite ingredient and a masterclass from Fergus Henderson would really shock mum next time I cook for the whole family!

My dream masterclass would be by any chef that understood how to use beer in cooking. In winter, there is not much that is better than beer braised lamb shanks with creamy mashed potatoes

Reply

36 Jaqueline Gokavi June 9, 2010 at 4:27 pm

I’d love to take a masterclass with Neil Perry, a great Aussie icon. We’d start with a Braised Pork Belly with Chillies, Stir Fry Duck with Coriander and Black Vinegar and finish up with Rhubarb, Raspberry & Praline Warm Pudding… comfort foods for winter… mmmm…

Reply

37 Christina June 9, 2010 at 9:16 pm

It would have to be Donna Hay, because her books and magazines are so beautiful, not to mention droolworthy! Also because she always sounds so entertaining on the radio :)

Reply

38 Liz June 10, 2010 at 5:05 pm

It’ll have to be Sin Leong, one of the founders of the raw fish salad “yee sang” who even had a cooking institute in Singapore till the late 80s/early 90s! I sure have fond memories of his signature dishes such as sharksfin soup, USA duck, yam ring and siamese chicken over many happy family dinners and celebrations! It’s such a pity that his restaurant has since been renamed and a far cry from what it used to be.

Reply

39 Faye June 10, 2010 at 8:19 pm

So many great chef’s mentioned BUT Liz, sharkfin soup? The cruelty! They don’t actually catch and use the whole shark, the fins are cut off and the poor creature dropped back into the sea to suffocate. I actually know a commercial fisherman and he told me about this. Big money, IF you don’t have a conscience…

I’d have to say:

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall

from River Cottage!

Not only because he has a fabulous name, but he cooks the yummiest, simple food and I’d love to talk to him about growing what you eat and eating what you grow.

I’d also secretly like to touch his hair to see if it’s real :)

41 Liz June 11, 2010 at 3:05 pm

I was reminiscing about stuff that I ate as a kid more than 30 years ago, cooked by a guy who has since passed on.

It was an error in judgement to list sharksfin and definitely not my intention to rave about it. Apologies if I came across as endorsing such cruelty and offended anyone.

my dream cooking masterclass would most definitely be about beef, and the perfect way to cook all the different cuts. when talking beef it has to be the one and only neil perry – his dedication to obtaining [and sustaining] the highest-grade product is admirable, and the way he continually strives to push australian produce into the international spotlight is really inspiring.

my dream masterclass would be cooking Italian food – pasta’s, desserts, wine and cheeses. The Italian Iron Chef would be the presenter.

Reply

46 Meggy June 17, 2010 at 9:15 am

My dream class would be about matching wines(or other drinks) to meals. I think this is something overlooked not only at home dining, but at dinner parties and even restaurants. To be able to understand and pick complimentary drinks to enhance the dining experience is still yet to be a consistent thing anywhere. My dream presenter? Kjell Ove Almeland from Jacksons!

my dream cooking masterclass will be about my grandmothers beef brisket. It has a long history dating back to my great grand parents. This beef brisket is very significant to me because it brings me back to my past where the beef brisket is all i looked forward to. Since my grandmothers passing, i have been looking for different beef briskets all over the country to look for the perfect beef brisket which brings back all the great memories.

jamie oliver will be my fav presenter for this.

A dream masterclass……with only ONE person?! Hmmmm…..I’ve been thinking about this for ages. But I’ve finally chosen a person.

Now, anyone who knows me knows that I’m a baker – whenever anyone comes to my place they get cupcakes (vanilla, chocolate, coffee and walnut, carrot, coconut, etc.) I’m pretty good at making the cake, but I’d love to be able to learn to do some really gorgeous decorations!

There’s a blog I’ve been following for years – The Journal of a Girl Who Loves To Cook. I want a lesson from her!!! Her name is Su-Yin and what she creates takes my breath away. She spent 6 months at the Notter School of Pastry Arts in Orlando, Florida and for that, I will forever be a teensy bit (okay, a LOT!) jealous. :-)

Definately would have to be with Manu Feildel, and I don’t care what he teaches me, I would be happy to just stand and stare!lol

Just one? Should I choose Maggie Beer because I think she’s just wonderful, or Donna Hay whose recipes I love? Jamie Oliver for his passion for good food or Emmanuel Mollois for his pastries and macarons?
You know what? I’d be thrilled beyond belief no matter who was presenting and I’d be ever so happy to learn whatever they wanted to teach…
