Junk food photos using the Lumix G2 camera

in Takeaway

The camera may be fancier and more powerful, but I’m still going to be taking photos of junk food – that will never change!

Here’s Jac’s bacon double cheeseburger deluxe with heavy lettuce and onion from Hungry Jack’s. Jac always orders her burgers with heavy lettuce and onion.

These days, I cannot eat Hungry Jack’s without ordering onion rings. I have come to love onion rings even more than fries. On the rare occasions there are a few onion rings left, I eat them out of the carton straight from the fridge later as a snack.

And of course, we love McMuffins for breakfast from McDonald’s. Jac always orders a bacon and egg McMuffin meal, which comes with a hash brown and a drink – she chooses a cappucino. In this photo and the next I intended to capture the melty-ness of Macca’s “plastic” cheese… there’s nothing else quite like it!

I always order a sausage and egg mcMuffin meal and I choose an orange juice for my drink. Do you, like me, eat every bit of melted cheese off the paper wrapper?

I still really miss the Big Breakfast. If they ever bring the Big Breakfast back, I’ll be one of the first in line, ready to eat and photograph (of course!).

Jac recently bought me a chicken fillet burger from Bucking Bull (from the food court at Carousel Shopping Centre).

She also got me a box of hot chips.

It wasn’t just plain old hot chips (nothing wrong with that, of course!) – she got me chips and gravy! Most of the brown gravy was in a pool at the bottom of the box and I had to dig deep to dip the chips into it, but mmm, it was tasty!

The Bucking Bull and Hungry Jack’s photos were taken indoors on different mornings in natural light. The McMuffin photos were taken indoors in a McDonald’s restaurant. I used the Lumix 20mm f1.7 pancake lens for all the photos.

In the next post: family photos using the Lumix G2 camera.

Mmmmmm….plastic cheese! You know it is so so wrong, but it just works. I hate to think what it is made of.

I quite often make my own brekky muffins at home and the plastic cheese is an essential ingredient for me, if there is no plastic cheese in the fridge there is no brekky muffin although the plastic cheese at the supermarket does lack the McDonalds cheese yellowness.

On the rare occasion I do get a McDonalds I also pick all of the melted cheese bits off of the wrapper but I give them to my greedy little kitten.

oooh HJs, my favorite!

Btw, if you’re not already reading her blog, “pioneer woman” is good for food photography tips using DSLRs.

Am starting to see the bokeh…;)

Ever since I’ve saw Clerks 2 and I saw them cutting the egg from a roll(!) for the morning “burgers”….I can’t bring myself to eat a McMuffin anything!

I’m loving the pics on the new camera.

Oh, my gosh! Now THIS is food porn. Mmmmm. That first photo made me gasp at how beautiful it is. You really are getting the hang of this camera! The depth of field is amazing!

Ok, now I think you’re just on a mission to re-photograph all the food you’ve eaten before with the new camera! :-)

Nothing wrong with that of course, you have to eat!

I really miss the sausage from McDonalds in Australia. The sausage here in the USA is NOT the same and is yuck! So not fair :(

Onion rings are my absolute favorite also! I thought I was the only one who ate cold leftover onion rings :-D.

This camera is amazing!!!! Your other photos have always been awesome too, but you can really notice the difference in the depth & every little detail pops. I love the first photo & the sausage & egg mcmuffin one – & I think Jac definitely has the right idea with heavy lettuce & onion :)

You should go visit NZ! They have a “Kiwi Big Breakfast” which is kind of like your “RIP Big Breakfast.” It has 2 sausages, scrambled eggs, a hash brown, and a toasted muffin.

Yum yum!! “I always order a sausage and egg mcMuffin meal and I choose an orange juice for my drink. Do you, like me, eat every bit of melted cheese off the paper wrapper?” Yes ma’am, indeed I do — especially if it’s a sausage, egg and cheese biscuit from McD’s. :-D Nothing like those crusty buttery slightly crumbly biscuits; currently 6:20 a.m. my time — might have to go get one! Onion rings are great but give me massive heartburn. The burger Jac ordered looks oh-so tempting. I’d have extra tomato on it too, then {{chomp}}! ;-)

Forgot to mention we still have the McD’s Big Breakfast. In fact just yesterday David and I passed a billboard featuring an ad for it. I did think of you. Wish for your sake Aussie McD’s (or Perth local) would start them again.

It always perplexes me how junk food looks NOTHING like the pictures on the menu… but honestly who cares… it tastes so gash darn good! and of course always eat every bit of cheese from the paper! Especially on a chili cheese dog! I use my fries to free the cheese from the paper and get every last glop of chili…

My favourite Macdonald’s brekkie is a sausage and egg mcmuffin too. Coming in a close second is the ham & egg one. Yum! In Singapore, it’s a must to have it with garlic chilli sauce. I always get milk to go along. One of my childhood habits I never quite outgrew.

Linda,
Heheheh. I’m greedier than the greediest kitten so I keep it all to myself. Jac will give the cats little morsels but they know better than to ask me. :)

Thanks, gerrie.
I am still learning so the bokeh will only get better as I improve.

Thanks Rach. Mwahahaha, it would take more than that to put me off eating McMuffins. :P

Wei-Wei,
Thanks, glad you like it. I’m still learning and discovering. Just you wait till I know exactly what I am doing! :D

Craig,
Haha. This evening we grabbed takeaway for dinner, my favourite greasy chicken noodles, which I’ve featured multiple times here at the blog – I would’ve photographed them with the new camera but for once hunger was the winner.

jessica,
Cheers, glad you like them. Sorry – hope your craving went away or you got to eat some HJs later on. :)

Nikki,
Really? Now I’m very curious and wish I could try the sausage over there! With luck I will get the chance to… maybe next year!

Thanks, Gcroft. I love onion rings so much – I wish they were more widely available at fast food places here. I remember the first time I ate onion rings was from Burger King when I was about 9 years old in Malaysia. I thought I had gone to heaven.

Bella,
I like that!

Megan,
I like lots of leftovers cold, especially junk food leftovers. Will eat cold McNuggets, cold onion rings, pizza, KFC… mmm.

Fiona,.
Sometimes Jac orders my Whopper with heavy lettuce. Another way she sneaks extra vegies into my diet. :)

Thanks, Erryn.
Yes, I’ve been amazed at the difference in image quality – and how easy it’s been so far to get great shots. Just imagine how much better they will be once I’m totally familiar with the camera and its various functions and settings!

Cassy,
Ohhh, fantastic. Haven’t ever thought about visiting NZ but now perhaps I should!

Cindy,
I wish we had biscuits over here. Everything I’ve seen and read about them suggests that I would love them. I live in hope the Big Breakfast will be resurrected over here, but I doubt that will happen. :(

hy,
Well, it IS real cheese. :P

Bryan,
The thing is, the food in my pictures did look like that in real life. The McMuffins and the bacon double cheeseburger deluxe looked great for once (not like the usual thrown together/sat on efforts). :)

Dea,
If I was in Singapore I’d skip the McDonalds breaky and go straight for the chicken rice or fried noodles for breaky!

Chicken rice for breaky?! hahahah! I usually skip the McDonalds and go for fried beehoon with a fried egg and sambal chilli sauce, anyway! Or some hot char siew pao!
