Corn fritters with bacon and maple syrup from Toast, East Perth

I’ve eaten some awesome food dining out in 2010. Here are the top 5 places around Perth I’ve been recommending to people since discovering them this year. Interestingly, breakfast has been the big winner in 2010.

Portofinos Restaurant, Mindarie

30 December 2010
Twice cooked crispy skin pork belly with apple puree, braised cabbage, seared scallops, Portofino's, Mindarie

Restaurant review. Delicious food with ocean views at this beachside restaurant. Magnificently rich tender pork belly and a cracking good toffee crust on the citrus creme brulee. I’d go back for the food, not the service.

Buffet breakfast, Hyatt Hotel Canberra

The buffet has a great selection of hot and cold breakfast dishes, fruit and breads. Don’t just eat the buffet scrambled eggs, tasty as they are – take advantage of the egg chef who’ll cook you fried or poached eggs and omelettes too! Food and service throughout our stay were excellent – we’ll happily stay at the Hyatt Hotel Canberra again.

Cafe Essen and sculptures, Canberra

French toast with bacon and maple syrup from Cafe Essen, Canberra

Lashings of bacon. Chunky toast, plain buttered or French. Freshly fried crispy corncakes. Roll it, dip it, drown it in maple syrup. That’s a beautiful breakfast in Canberra city. Also in this post: a suggestive sheep…? :)
