Big hugs all round

Thank you to everyone who left a comment in response to the recent hateful comments left by (we hope) an ex-reader of this site.

I’m sure I have conveyed in a number of ways in recent posts how much I appreciate all of your readership, your support and your friendship. I think I said before during Garnishgate that it’s funny how the controversial posts/comments always inspire long-time lurkers to reveal themselves and leave comments in support/defence of me/the blog. It’s great – I love being constantly surprised by learning who reads this blog. It’s lovely to be able to check out your own blogs too, when you leave your URLs in your comments. On that note, I am perpetually trying to catch up with reading and commenting on my favourite blogs as well as discovering many new ones. I do appreciate your comments and would like to return the favour and interact with you on your own blogs. These days though I get so busy with this site as well as home and uni that I just don’t have as much time to read and comment on other blogs as I would like to.

I have been amazed at how many comments there have been in response to The Great Lesbian Controversy (it’s the new site record, beating Garnishgate handsomely). There have been so many comments that I won’t be replying to them all individually as many of you covered the same points (with much wit and eloquence, I must say!) – the purpose of this post is to address some of the main issues that have arisen from the Controversy and your questions and comments – so here goes.

dobby raised a good point: you-know-who probably gets his jollies reading the responses of everyone else. In fact, I reckon he’s still reading the site now, despite claiming he was disgusted and was saying “Bye Bye”. I don’t know if he’s genuinely (albeit inelegantly and rudely) expressing his beliefs or if he’s just a plain old attention-seeking, poo-stirring troll. Whenever I get comments that I find rude, offensive or just strange, obviously I can either respond, delete or just not respond at all. I don’t like the idea of deleting comments (unless they are obviously just spammy). I also don’t like not responding at all because in real life I’m not the sort of person who quietly cops abuse from people. And so I’ve chosen, as demonstrated recently, to highlight such comments and ask for responses from my readers. It’s been interesting and a good way to generate discussion and get people involved, I think. I may continue to do so in future – but what I do not want to happen is to become troll bait and for such discussions to gain greater prominence than the food photos/posts. I’ll take it on a case-by-case basis. With luck there won’t be too many “cases”. Mooiness – mate, should I redirect future flamers to your site? Hee hee.

Re: DocChuck’s mention of his and his wife’s education in his follow-up comment- I think this was in response to my suggestion that he felt like a fool, not realising the truth about my (oh so relevant) sexuality – you know, “I’ve got a university education, so I can’t possibly be a fool” (Yeah, pretty laughable). And as a number of you have pointed out, DocChuck effectively shot his own argument in the foot by saying he hadn’t realised I was a lesbian – obviously if this site so forcefully promotes and advertises lesbianism he must be a little slow on the uptake, despite being so highly educated (and therefore not a fool). You know, I don’t even remember using the L word on this site before responding to his comments. LOL, this whole thing has just made me laugh and laugh, so don’t worry Chubbypanda, my chin is well and truly up. If I had a tail, it would be also up, like Pixel’s. And to those of you who told me not to let him get me down, don’t worry, he hasn’t, and I shall continue to write/post as I have been. I truly appreciate all of your continued interest and support – those of you who are long-time readers as well as the recent “recruits” that have been sucked in by my campaign of perversion :).

So how does Jac feel about it all?
She’s really not fussed. While she supports my blogging activities, she’s not into blogging herself. She rarely uses the internet, and that’s only to check email. She doesn’t read any blogs. She does however, like seeing how much pleasure and excitement I get from blogging. I feel very lucky – she’s not into food blogging but will patiently wait for me to take photos of our meals before digging in, no matter how hungry she is. She thinks it’s funny that people she’s never met are so interested to read about what we get up to, and she thinks it’s funny to have people from all over the world admiring her cooking (but she loves that aspect, I think – because, let’s face it, a compliment is always nice, even from someone you don’t know personally). Over the years, she’s been learning that you can form genuine friendships with people through internet communities and blogging – people that you may never even get to meet in person. I have read all the Controversy-related posts out to Jac, and she thinks they are great. Quite a number of your comments made her really laugh, especially Sharon’s and ron’s. :-D Katie, Jac thinks it’s cool that you reckon she sounds “awesome”. Hahaha. I told Jac should just pay me later for writing only about Good Jac and keeping Evil Jac a secret from you all (just kidding, I also think she is pretty awesome) :). And thank you for the huggles.

And to all the Americans, people with PhDs (I will soon be one myself :)), MDs and Christian/religious people who read this site, don’t worry, I certainly do not think badly of you because of this one person.

And a special mention to An9ie, thank you for what you wrote at your site about all of this. And cheers too to pd! Yeah, I shall do my best to be “intimidating” and “forceful” …heheheh.

Now let’s get back to what this blog was intended to (and I thought did) focus on – FOOD.
