Bento lunches for two - ginger chicken, oyster sauce greens and rice

Jac cooked this dinner, of rice with ginger chicken and green vegetables stir-fried with oyster sauce and garlic… I didn’t do anything special with the leftovers for bento the next day. I just packed it into our lunch boxes. It tasted great the next day!

Chicken and salad bento boxes for two

A bento from a few weeks ago! Jac panfried four chicken thigh fillets which she’d simply rubbed in salt and pepper, and I packed us chicken and salad for lunch. The salad consisted of mixed greens, grape tomatoes, cucumber, green beans, mushrooms, sliced sweet gherkin pickles and corn kernels.

For dinner, Jac served oven-baked crumbed chicken fingers (bought frozen in a box), asparagus stems and vegetable slice. The vegetable slice was another of Jac’s experiments, made of egg and vegetables – green beans, asparagus tips, potato, carrot and onion…

I packed us both the same lunch: roast pork with apple sauce, turkey thigh roast with cranberry sauce, roasted vegetables, crackling, steamed green beans and broccoli, and a little container of gravy.

Army of siew mai …and lovely surprises for me

We had a family afternoon tea recently at my parents’ home. Jac and I contributed siew mai to the meal – we bought three or four serves from Fook Kee at Spencer Village International Food Hall (200 Spencer Road, Thornlie) and brought them along. Mum and I placed them in a dish to heat up in the rice cooker – it looked like an army of siew mai!

This was a kind of naughty junk food bento – a McDonald’s bento, with Chicken McNuggets and a sachet of tomato sauce, and a McDonald’s apple pie for dessert. I also included one of my sweet crunchy salad combos…
