Opinion

On food bloggers and restaurant reviews
Food critics, restaurateurs and chefs who see food bloggers as a “blight” are misguided or in denial. Here’s why.

The problem of incomplete restaurant service
This is something we’ve come across quite often when dining out around Perth: service is quite good to begin with – attentive, efficient and prompt – until you’ve been served your main course.

We thoroughly recommend you try Hanami Japanese Restaurant in Mt Lawley…. still the best Japanese we’ve ever had in Perth. It’s on Beaufort St, on the left, next to the Cheesecake Shop and Subway.

Thanks, Storm, noted! Will keep Hanami in mind next time we’re in Mt Lawley for sure.

Hi

i really think if you love food you should try the tapas at The Imp in East Vic Park and i would reommend the pancake stack for breakfast, the whipped fetta and spinich bagette for lunch and a set of tapas which must include the glazed lamb chops for dinner!! seriously an awsome place to eat im glad i work across the road!

thanks Jayde

Cheers Jayde. The Imp is on our list of places to check out. A few readers have recommended The Imp. We just don’t have the time to dine out as often as we’d like – we’re slowly working our way through our ever-growing list.

Hi TFP,

I realised that I was standing next to you on the morning train to work a few days ago! Recognised you from your small profile picture.

Thanks for the great blog. You have inspired me to finally start my own!

Kind regards,
food sponge

Hi food sponge,
That’s both cool and freaky at the same time.I guess it was bound to happen eventually. :)
I was probably frowning (I’m always cranky in the morning on the way to work) and busy tweeting on my phone.
I’ve bookmarked your blog for closer reading on the weekend.

Heh TFP
Love your blog – its on my ‘to-do’ list each morning with my cuppa tea.
Just thought I would drop you a line to see if you have tried the Red Cray in Ascot – right next to the Sandringham Hotel, wne there last night for my husband’s Birthday – was mighty impressed and would certainly recommend it – would love to hear your thoughts on it too.
Have a great day!

Hi Susan,
Glad you enjoy it! :) No, we haven’t tried the Red Cray but we love seafood, so will add to our list! Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi TFP,
Thanks for your blog, it always helps me decide where to eat and avoid mediocracy!
I cannot reccommend strongly enough that you try Jun Restaurant on Hay Street for dinner. Its down a side alley and a little difficult to find, but it is the best Japanese food I have had outside of Japan. Also very reasonably priced.
It moves away from the usual offerings of sushi and noodles.
Give it a go!

Hi TFP
Please can you recommend and review some Vietnamese restaurants. We want to find the best in Perth/Freo. In the past we have tried the one on Brisbane St, near William and TQR in Nedlands on Stirling Highway and Viet Nosh in Hampden Road.
Please go and try Vivisen in Point St, Freo. I think it is more chinese – dim sim/sum? We love it but want to know your opinion too.
Nick

Hi,

I was very happy to find your reviews of restaurants as well as the places you visited on your trip to Albany (wonderful photos, too!). My husband and I are traveling to Albany on the first weekend of June and will absolutely check out the Squid Shack. Thanks for the great details you provide.

If you’re after a good pizza, I really recommend Claudio’s in Alexander Heights. Go on a cold night with a bottle of red and enjoy the warmth from the woodfired oven. A much more intimate experience than Little Caesar’s. We’re addicted to the pizzas, and it’s very dangerous living in the same suburb.
