Last month, we attended a 62nd birthday party at my brother’s place. It wasn’t really someone’s 62nd birthday – we were celebrating my brother’s 30th, his wife/my sister-in-law’s 30th and my niece Ruby’s 2nd birthday: 30 + 30 + 2 = 62!

I came across a sausage sizzle at lunch time – $2.00 for a barbecued sausage, onions and barbecue sauce or tomato sauce in a fresh bun. Fantastic!

Polling booth sausage sizzle

Sausage, fried onions and tomato sauce in a hot dog bun

In May, Western Australians voted in a referendum on daylight saving. We wandered over to a polling place in the morning, one of the local primary schools. As we approached, we smelled the unmistakable aroma of fried onions and and heard the sizzle of barbecue. Fantastic – this would be breakfast!

We didn’t do anything exciting for new year’s eve. We were happy to just stay home. Jac did a bit of cooking and I played my Nintendo DS (I’m currently hopelessly addicted to Animal Crossing: Wild World). We had a relaxing evening with a delicious dinner (the good bit), followed by um, something not so relaxing (the bad bit)…

My bento lunch the day after our pork ribs barbecue: leftover salad and hard-boiled egg, pork ribs (taken off the bone so they’d be less messy to eat at work), with a piece of Christmas nutty cake, green seedless grapes, and a piece of tasty cheddar cheese.

It was a stinking hot day on Monday 29 December, so Jac decided to keep the heat out of the house and cook dinner outdoors on the barbecue.
