Seared scallops, confit pork, cauliflower, mint & squid ink (AU$19), The Silver Spoon Food & Wine, Victoria Park

Fine dining in Victoria Park at the heart of used car yard central. Our food was intricate, interesting and delicious. The dessert of rose pannacotta, fairy floss, rose granita and Turkish delight is stunning.

Coco’s Restaurant, South Perth

Cured salmon gravadlax, ciabatta wafers, lemon creme fraiche, salmon caviar, fresh dill from Coco's Restaurant, South Perth

Fantastic risotto and carpaccio. Wonderful salmon gravadlax and Geraldton dhufish. But an unbelievably noisy restaurant – things that smashed and clattered on the floor and a kitchen door didn’t stop squeaking.

Authentic wiener schnitzel, Alpine Restaurant, Carlisle

So slow, in fact, that we left without ordering dessert, fearful it would take another hour to get to our table. We just couldn’t bear more waiting. That was the theme of the evening – waiting, waiting, waiting.

Portorosa Cafe, Fremantle

Scotch filet steak with prawns and creamy garlic sauce

Restaurant review – unfortunately, the most memorable aspects of our meal were negative: the inedible garlic bread rusks we were served; the steak placed on chips; how we almost didn’t even eat at Portorosa. But I did enjoy my garlic prawns.

My chicken burger

Jac made us burgers for a recent Saturday lunch. They were pretty simple, but really delicious. A juicy chicken filet burger for me and a marinated steak burger for Jac.
