We’re really excited to find another suburban Perth cafe that serves Malaysian hawker-style food for brunch, including specialty dishes that are hard to find locally. On Sunday morning, we visit one-week-old Kitchen Inn Cafe at Thornlie Square shopping centre on Spencer Road.

Shortly after new year, we stayed three nights in Albany, a town in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, approximately 400 km south-east of Perth (4.5 hours by car, or just over an hour by plane). This was our first meal in Albany – an omelette and BLT at Cosi’s Cafe.

Crumpets with butter and honey at Crumpet, East Victoria Park

Restaurant review – toasted homemade crumpets slathered with butter and honey, smoked salmon eggs Benedict with dill and caper hollandaise, juicy mushrooms on garlic-rubbed ciabatta toast, enormous rashers of bacon – we loved it all and will be back!

Restaurant review – a little on the expensive side, but we didn’t mind, because the service was efficient, the food plentiful and delicious. The highlights for me: fantastic asparagus and the juiciest spinach I’ve eaten in a long time! We’ll be back for sure.
