It’s not spectacular but a good feed at a reasonable price – AU$17.95 includes everything: fruit juice, fresh and stewed fruit, cereals, bread, yoghurt, mini Danish pastries and muffins and the hot breakfast buffet, including bacon, mushrooms, scrambled eggs, baked beans, hash brown, chipolatas and baked tomato topped with cheese.

Restaurant review. I loved the Vietnamese pork and prawn salad featuring tiny nuggets of pork crackling – and that wasn’t even my dish. Our three courses featured interesting and delicious flavour and texture combinations. Worth a visit if you’re ever in Albany.

Shortly after new year, we stayed three nights in Albany, a town in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, approximately 400 km south-east of Perth (4.5 hours by car, or just over an hour by plane). This was our first meal in Albany – an omelette and BLT at Cosi’s Cafe.

The best bowl of ice cream ever: creamy vanilla bean ice cream via Hyatt Hotel Canberra room service at 6:40am, urgently needed to cool and soothe my painful hot sore throat.
