Senoji Japanese Restaurant, East Victoria Park

Kingfish sashimi (small), Senoji Japanese Restaurant, East Victoria Park

We dine out regularly in Victoria Park/East Victoria Park and have walked past Senoji Japanese Restaurant many times. It never seems to have many customers but we’ve stopped and read the menu that they have on display at the front of the restaurant. At last, on a Tuesday evening before easter, we decided to give ...

Dinner - Japanese curry with chicken and vegetables

Jac made Japanese chicken curry using Golden Curry Mild mix, with thigh chicken pieces, potato, carrot and green beans. The green beans were a last-minute addition, but I reckon we’ll include them in our Japanese curries at home from now on.

Grilled chicken thighs with sesame and miso sauce with cauliflower salad, from Toraya Sushi

Restaurant review – we enjoyed a lovely dinner at Toraya Sushi, with melt-in-the-mouth beef carpaccio, sashimi, enormous tender chicken thighs smothered in sesame and miso sauce and a luxuriously creamy soft creme caramel.

Saké Restaurant and Bar, The Rocks, Sydney

Sashimi selection at Saké Restaurant and Bar, The Rocks, Sydney

Restaurant review. Saké Restaurant and Bar at The Rocks in Sydney is not a cheap eats kind of place, but if you’re willing to spend the money, the food is top-notch and each dish is presented beautifully, with pride and care. The fried foods are served poppingly fresh (don’t be greedy and burn your mouth!), the sashimi fresh and sliced with precision, the desserts lusciously decadent and surprising.

Dinner – takeaway sushi and salad

10 December 2009
Nagano sushi combo

I met Jac at the shops after work. We had a couple of bills to pay and I needed to buy vitamins. After we’d done those tasks, just as I was about to say “I’m really tired. Could we just get some dinner and go home?” Jac looked at me and said “Do you mind if we just grab some takeaway dinner and go home? I’m too tired to do the grocery shopping tonight.” Great minds think alike, or in this case, tired minds!

Work lunch – chicken katsu burger with fries

15 November 2009
Chicken katsu burger

We have noodles, curry, Japanese and sandwiches in East Perth but what I’d like is a real burger place. Or even a junk food franchise burger place. I know having easy access to junk food would make bad days so much better. Of course, I’m not talking “nutritionally” better – I’m talking about the ...
