Char siu pow - BBQ pork buns - from Fisherman's Wharf Seafood Restaurant, Pyrmont

Restaurant review – on my last day in Sunday, I had dim sum with my sister and brother-in-law at Fisherman’s Wharf Seafood Restaurant in Pyrmont. We all got to eat our must-have dim sum items: char siu pow, siew mai and egg tart and really enjoyed our breakfast. I’d happily eat there again.

Curry tiger pie, Harry’s Cafe De Wheels, Haymarket, Sydney

Curry tiger pie, Harry's Cafe De Wheels, Haymarket, Sydney

Gravy, mushy peas, mashed potato all piled on top of a curry meat pie probably sounds like the most ghastly combination ever, but it’s hot and delicious, savoury and comforting, it’s soft yet crispy, and it works. Every dig of the fork through the layers of gravy, peas, potato, pastry and curry was sheer pleasure.

Cutting the Croc in a Rock in half - breakfast at Cafe Ish, Surry Hills, Sydney

Restaurant review – on my recent Sydney trip, I enjoyed a fantastic breakfast at Cafe Ish in Surry Hills, with crocodile sausage, kangaroo sausage, bacon, eggs and delicious house-made baked beans cooked with pork hocks! We were disappointed the soft shell crab omelette was not available, but our meal and the service that morning were excellent.

Sashimi selection at Saké Restaurant and Bar, The Rocks, Sydney

Restaurant review. Saké Restaurant and Bar at The Rocks in Sydney is not a cheap eats kind of place, but if you’re willing to spend the money, the food is top-notch and each dish is presented beautifully, with pride and care. The fried foods are served poppingly fresh (don’t be greedy and burn your mouth!), the sashimi fresh and sliced with precision, the desserts lusciously decadent and surprising.

Product review: Carnation Soy Creamy Cooking Milk

12 October 2009
Chicken and mushrooms, beans and garlic mashed potatoes

Recently, I received a sample of Nestle’s new Carnation Soy Creamy Cooking Milk. It’s the only soy milk product in Australia designed for cooking, for use in both sweet and savoury dishes. Being specially designed for cooking, this soy milk won’t separate when heated (it’s so off-putting when that happens!). It’s lactose free, gluten free and cholesterol free and is suitable for vegetarians and vegans…
