City Farm Cafe, East Perth

Organic chicken and salad roll from City Farm Cafe

The new City Farm Cafe in East Perth is a great place to get lunch. All the food is made fresh onsite from organic ingredients and produce. So far, I’ve enjoyed muffins, chicken and salad bread sandwiches, toasted focaccia and the most amazing chicken and ginger soup. It’s located at City Farm, an organic community permaculture farm on the edge of Perth city.

Alpine Restaurant, Carlisle

Authentic wiener schnitzel, Alpine Restaurant, Carlisle

Restaurant review – delicious German/Austrian food (magnificent authentic wiener schnitzel and chips!) spoiled by extremely slow service. So slow, in fact, that we left without ordering dessert, fearful it would take another hour to get to our table. We just couldn’t bear more waiting. That was the theme of the evening – waiting, waiting, waiting.

Soup and toasted sandwiches, banana and custard pudding…Twitter and two words!

Dinner - tomato soup and toasted sandwiches

When Jac emailed me at work during the day to ask what I felt like for dinner, I knew right away: tomato soup and toasted sandwiches. Jac surprised me with a cold banana and custard pudding for dessert. I love hearing the words “banana pudding”. Other two-word phrases I love include: fried chicken, bursty prawns, roast pork, book sale, dinner’s ready, I’m home. What two-word phrase do you love to hear?

Tomato and pasta bake

Take some cooked penne pasta, fresh grape tomatoes, grated cheese and a tin of condensed tomato soup. Finely chop some white onion. Put the pasta, tomatoes, onion and soup into a casserole dish, top with cheese (as much or as little as you like) and bake in the oven until the dish is heated through, the cheese is melted and it’s all bubbling. Voila!

Zoe's baptism lunch

3 August 2009
Mum's deepfried wantan

My niece Zoe (sister of Ruby) was baptised last month, and afterwards we all went back to my brother’s place for lunch. My sister-in-law Ange (Zoe’s mum) had done some cooking, but family and friends brought along dishes too. It was quite a feast!
