What’s in my fridge
I’ve been featured in The Stir’s What’s in My Fridge column this week. Thanks to the magic of the Internet, take in peek in TFP’s and Jac’s fridge!

Got anything interesting in your fridge?

Well done you :)
Interesting things in my fridge…. hmmmmm. Half of it’s usually full of beer, but I guess that’s not so unusual in Australian households that contain at least 1 male?
Thanks, Charlene. Heheh. You could be right. But women like beer too, of course. :P
Most women usually have more sense to drink that much of the stuff, that their fridges have to be 50% full of it. :D
No offense to your male readers!
Impressive list of sauces in your fridge, TFP! But then again, who am I to say that when I have a row of sauces in my mine too – ketchup, chilli, dark soy, light soy, oyster, teriyaki, Japanese baby mayonnaise, wasabi, leftover salad dressing sachets…
My fridge isn’t that special. I just like to load it with good, healthy stuff I can use to make tasty, healthy and fresh meals. I always make sure I have spreads like canola spread, St. Dalfour jam, Vegemite (I live in Singapore but can’t do without an occasional dose of Vegemite on toast) and low-fat cream cheese in there. I must have plain yoghurt for eating and cooking purposes, cartons of soy milk to drink every morning, and easy, fresh bits and pieces to assemble meals with – fruit, cherry tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, capsicums, chicken thighs and fish fillets (in the freezer). And of course, a stash of dark chocolate. :D
A bottle of Jarritos pineapple flavoured Mexican soda (yes, made and bottled in Mexico; just-right sweetness, crisp and fruity taste). A container of soy protein powder (yuck! – from my ill-fated vegan attempt in 2008 :-p ). At least 6 half-used containers of lemon, German coconut and fudge frostings. Otherwise our ‘fridge is boring.
You have me beat with sauces! I have alot though, usually in the door so I can find them without too much rummaging. I always have: 2% milk. Green tea with ginsing and honey .coffee creamer and oj. Sour cream apples, lemons and good butter. Always carrots and celery and ready chopped garlic in case I run out of fresh. Also eggs and bagels and cream cheese.Don’t forget the bacon! These are the staples.
I read the comment you made about chicken nuggets and literally laughed out loud. I’m not a huge McDonald’s chicken nugget fan but Ive been craving them since they offered a 50pc/$9.99 deal. So, I buy a box and figure that with a 9 yr old in the house they will be gone in a flash.
I was so wrong.
I ate those nuggets for every meal for 3 days straight, I swear. I didn’t want them to go to waste so I just ate a few thinking that at anytime the kid would finish the box off. Finally, I asked him why he wasn’t eating them and he replied “Grandpa took me to McDonald’s twice this week and I’m McNugget-ed out”.
Arghh!!!
I later asked myself why I didn’t just freeze the nuggets and after slapping my forehead I told myself to shut up.
As the kid said, I’m McNuggeted out.
Oh no! :-( That’d be my luck too. I’m not one to waste food either, but yes — that’d get tedious fast. Hadn’t heard of 50 pc for $9.99. Must have been a regional promo.
Dea,
Your fridge contents sound very wholesome! Love St Dalfour jams! We always have Vegemite too – but I have to be in the mood for it; Jac loves it spread super thick on toast and eats it more often than me. When I lived alone (before I met Jac) my fridge was a very barren place – typical contents were a carton of OJ, a block of cheese, a loaf of bread (because I could never manage to finish a whole loaf quick enough on my own). And various leftovers in takeaway containers, because I rarely cooked.
Cindy,
Mmm, pineapple soda! Soy protein powder, yes yuck! :P
kathy,
Luckily we live close to a few supermarkets and a couple of them open on Sundays so we can do a bacon run if need be. I hare digging around in the fridge for stuff – I’d like a fridge that covers the whole wall so it’s super-wide but not deep so everything will still fit in there but will all be in the front! :P
chef biatch,
I LOL’d too when I read YOUR comment! :D Yes my best friend in the US told me about the 50pc/$9.99 deal and I was so envious! We never have anything like that here. I can only imagine how McNuggeted out you and your son were! Hahaha.
